Wanderlei Silva vs. Brian Stann - UFC
Wanderlei Silva vs. Brian Stann

If the legend of Wanderlei Silva was in the least bit tarnished with his recent performances in the UFC, he polished it right back up with a brutal knockout of Brian Stann at 4:08 of the second round.

Brian Stann came out pursuing Wanderlei Silva, and he was the first to land a big shot as he flurried in the pocket. Silve fired back, clipping Stann with a flurry of his own before landing one of his patented knees up the middle.

After a restart, both fighters stood in the pocket and exchanged, bringing the crowd to their feet. Stann got the better of the exchange, clipping Silva and dropping him to his knees. Silva recovered, getting back to his feet to resume the battle.

A groin shot from Stann stopped the action for the moment but the fighters got right back to the action after the restart. Silve then went to his jab, establishing range, while Stann attacked the lead leg of Silva with kicks. Another brutal exchange followed as both guys threw caution to the wind.

Silva got caught first, but then connected with a huge shot that dropped Stann. Both fighters survived the firefight, resulting in Stann landing on top of Silva as the bell sounded on a tremendous first round of action.

The second round saw a more cautious start, but it wasn’t long before both fighters stood in the pocket and exchanged once again. Stann then went to work on the lead leg of Silva, while “The Axe Murderer” countered with his jab.

Another groin shot from Stann stopped the action briefly, but not for long as Silva resumed his attack with his stiff jab. Silva then uncorked a lead right hand, then followed up with a crushing, monstrous left hook that crumpled Stann to the canvas. Silva pounced, finishing off Stann with a short flurry of punches.

The brutal finish added to the legend that is Wanderlei Silva, improving his record to 35-12-1 (5-7 UFC). The disappointing defeat for Brian Stann drops his record to 12-6 (6-5 UFC).
