Glover Teixeira dominated Jackson over three rounds to extend his winning streak to 18 and take one step closer to title contention in the UFC’s light heavyweight division.
Teixeira showed patience in his attack to start, mixing up body shots with his powerful left hook. “Rampage” fired back but his wild looping punches weren’t effective against the advancing Teixeira. The Brazilian managed a takedown but did little from the top before the battle resumed on the feet. A clipping left hand from Teixeira hurt Jackson, and the Brazilian continued to fire, dropping Jackson with yet another left hand. “Rampage” made his way back to his feet and rallied just before the bell but found himself down after one.
The second round started with a takedown from Teixeira. As he looked for his patented arm triangle choke, he alternated with elbows and short left hands from the top. Jackson again managed to get back to his feet, firing uppercuts on the break. Teixeira fired back with uppercuts of his own. He then went back to the body before engaging in a big exchange with “Rampage” as the bell sounded on the second round.
Jackson came out in the final round with a sense of urgency, swinging for the fences. “Rampage” got his jab on track as well but Teixeira again scored another takedown. Once again he could not control Jackson from the top, but once the fight hit the feet again, Teixeira flurried to the body, then landed his big left hook at will as Jackson started to fade. Another late takedown from Teixeira sealed the deal, as he punished Jackson with elbows and strikes from the top.
With scores of 30-27, 30-27, and 29-28, Glover Teixeira improves to (20-2) and (3-0) in the UFC.
