UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey continues to reach platforms that male MMA fighters can only dream about. She was recently names to the Forbes 30 under 30 list for sports. Here’s an excerpt regarding criteria on how to make the list:
FORBES editors and reporters worked with panels of expert judges to choose the field’s brightest stars under the age of 30. In sum they represent the entrepreneurial, creative and intellectual best of their generation. Individually, they are surprising, engaging, and hard working.
Rousey is the only MMA fighter on the list of 30. She’s in the same company as megastars LeBron James, Robert Griffin III, Kevin Durant, Gabby Douglas, and Sidney Crosby among others. Rousey is only 25 years old and has already accomplished a ton in a relatively short amount of time. She’s the first American woman to win an Olympic medal in Judo, and is already the UFC women’s bantamweight champion. She’ll be putting the latter title on the line at UFC 157 which will be another first for Rousey as she’ll be involved in the first ever women’s MMA fight in the UFC against Liz Carmouche. The bout is set to take place on February 23 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
