UFC President Dana White announced that Forrest Griffin has an MCL tear and a strained ACL:

Forrest Has MCL tear and ACL strain. 20 cc’s of blood removed from his knee and the saga continues at the UFC!!

A replacement has not been named at this time. Griffin was scheduled to take on Phil Davis at UFC 155 after his original opponent Chael Sonnen was transplanted to coach on the current season of “The Ultimate Fighter”. Davis (10-1, 1NC) is coming off a second round submission win over Wagner Prado at UFC 153. Griffin (19-7) is coming off the very close unanimous decision win over Tito Ortiz at UFC 148 in what was the final bout of Ortiz’s career.

UFC 155 will take place in Las Vegas on December 29th and will be headlined by the UFC heavyweight title rematch between Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez.

The stylistic matchup for Griffin was not good as Davis is a very good wrestler. It’s thought that Griffin is near the end of his career and would have been a solid win for the still very young Phil Davis. It’ll be interesting to see who they get to replace Griffin in this matchup.

Can you think of any solid replacements that would give Davis more credibility with a win?
