Today GLORY World Series held a random draw to determine the opening matches for the GLORY 3 Rome ‘Final 8’ one-night tournament set to take place on Nov. 3. The draw took place today in Port Hercule aboard the $20 million Andreas Super Yacht.
Giorgio Petrosyan (71-1-2), Albert Kraus (66-16-3), Robin van Roosmalen (35-13-3) and Shemsi Beqiri (71-7) were the top seeds and were allocated numbers 1,2,5, and 7 respectively. Ramon Dekkers was given the job of drawing the numbers to determine which of the remaining four fighters would face them.
Ky Hollenbeck (34-7) was drawn first and faces Petrosyan in what is the toughest opening match anyone could ask for. Davit Kiria (18-7) of Netherlands was next; the karate stylist is matched with Beqiri in what promises to be a war. English entrant Tim ‘TNT’ Thomas (60-1-9) drew van Roosmalen in what could well be a Fight of the Year contender, and the final match saw the tournament’s oldest competitor Kraus, 32, matched with its youngest, 21-year-old Swedish prodigy Sanny Dahlbeck (24-4).
Here is what GLORY Managing Director, Marcus Luer, had to say:
“These tournaments are the toughest thing in fight sports,” Luer also said. “If you actually think about what these athletes have to do, it is mind-blowing. The winner will have had to face three of the best fighters in the world in the space of a few hours. It is an incredible test of heart, skill and toughness.”
Two tournament reserve matches are also set to take place on the ‘Final 8’ fight card to determine replacements should any of the main tournament fighters be injured and unable to progress to the next round. Japan’s Yoshihiro Sato (49-18) will face Russian fighter Dzhabar Askerov (73-28-1) in the first of the two match-ups and Fabio Pinca (85-17-4) takes on Italian prospect Alessandero Campagna (29-5) in the second bout.
GLORY 3 Rome ‘Final 8’ is set to take place on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the PalaLottomatica Arena. The first preliminary bout will begin at 19:00 and the first main card bout will begin at 20:30. The live stream on GloryWorldSeries.com will begin with the first bout at 19:00 CEST/1:00 p.m. ET/10:00 a.m. PT.
