Demian Maia hadn’t won by submission since 2009, but that quickly changed at UFC 153 as he submitted Rick Story midway through the opening round.

Story landed an early left hand as the fight began, but his aggression cost him, as Maia ducked under another left hand to take the fight to the mat early.

Once there, Maia went to work, slowly and strategically moving to take the back of Story. Story was able to use the cage to stand up on several occasions, but finally Maia was able to work his way to the back and start working his submission game.

Maia used a series of left hands to soften his opponent up, then secured the choke across the jaw of Story. Without the arm under the neck, Maia instead went with a neck crank, getting the tap within seconds.

With the victory, Demian Maia (17-4 MMA, 11-4 UFC) extends his win streak to two, while handing Rick Story his third consecutive defeat in the UFC.
