Borgomeo vs. Reynolds

In what is becoming the normal now in MMA, a main event has lost a fighter due to injury. This time, however, Eric Reynolds didn’t spoil the fun and agreed to fight a replacement for Danny Salinas. Next up for him is Lorenzo Borgomeo or ‘The Borg’ as some people call him. The lightweights will clash in the main event of XFC 20 ‘High Octane’ Sept. 28 in Knoxville, Tenn. live on AXStv.

The XFC confirmed the switch late Tuesday evening.

Borgomeo trains with the Florida based Blackzilians and is coming off of a loss back in April when he traveled to Italy for a bout. Borgomeo has been in several big fights including the first Bellator event as well as an EliteXC appearance. John Prisco said there was no hesitation to take the fight:

“Lorenzo is here from Italy and currently with Blackzilians. He has been training solidly for months, perfecting his game. When we made the call to his camp, there was no hesitancy on accepting the bout opportunity. I hope the Knoxville fans and those watching on Axstv are ready for Sept 28th.”

Reynolds has other worries to go along with the opponent switch. Having agreed to fight at both XFC 20 and XFC 21, he has the task of preparing for Borgormeo while knowing he also has a match-up with undefeated superstar Nick Newell in December. Prisco said this about the situation:

“Borgomeo is a hard hitting Italian and he’s looking for an opportunity to make a name for himself in the XFC. If Eric overlooks him and starts thinking about the fight with Newell, he could be in trouble. But Eric has already confirmed he is ready for this fight, and I know the two will put on a great show.”

It is unclear at this time if Reynolds loses if he will still get the opportunity to face Newell. That fight, if it happens, will go down in Nashville for the finale of the XFC’s 2012 campaign.

XFC 20 will take place Friday, Sept. 28, at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. The main card will air live on AXStv. Stay close to ProMMAnow.com (www.prommanow.com) for full coverage of “XFC 20: High Octane” including exclusive interviews on Pro MMA Now Radio.
