Two Olympians: Dr. Rhadi Ferguson with Olympic judo gold medalist Teddy Riner.

Five-time world champion Judo player Teddy Riner won Olympic gold today at ExCel Arena in London. Representing France, Riner had won four bronze medals in the Olympics in Beijing four years ago, but today he picked up the highest crown any Olympic athlete can achieve by besting three-time Russian world champion Alexander Mikhaylin on penalties in the heavyweight final.

It so happens our own Dr. Rhadi Ferguson recently spoke with MMA coach and judoka Bertrand Amoussou about Teddy Riner and the possibility of him competing in mixed martial arts. Bertrand is a Pride veteran, national judo champion and competed on the French national team for a full decade. He currently coaches his younger brother Karl Amoussou, who just won Bellator’s welterweight tournament last month by submitting Bryan Baker with a heel hook in the first round in the final.
