Former Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez has one fight left on his current Bellator contract, and that fight will be against Patricky “Pitbull” Freire on October 12th. Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney tweeted the news earlier today:

The bout will take place at Caesers Windsor in Ontario, Canada. Alvarez is coming off a win over Shinya Aoki at Bellator 66 where he avenged a previous loss while rebounding from losing his Bellator title to Michael Chandler in the bout before that. It could be a pivotal fight for Alvarez when it comes to negotiation time with Bellator and/or other promotions like the UFC. A loss certainly crushes any bargaining power he currently has, granted it’s still less than what he had prior to the loss to Chandler. A loss to Freire, although a good fighter in his own right, would certainly put crush any hopes of Alvarez getting the deal he wants.

Freire is coming off a submission loss to Lloyd Woodard at Bellator 62, and also has a loss to Michael Chandler. He’s (1-2) in his last three fights with notable wins over former WEC champion Rob McCullough, UFC veteran Kurt Pellegrino,  and Bellator tournament finalist Toby Imada. According to Rebney, the main card will air on MTV2 with preliminary fights streaming on Spike.com. Stay tuned to ProMMAnow (www.prommanow.com) for future Bellator news.
