Demian Maia quickly earned his first win in the UFC as a welterweight, finishing Dong Hyun Kim by TKO in just 47 seconds.

Maia closed the distance quickly as the bout started, securing Kim against the cage and taking his back. Kim fought off the initial takedown attempt but staggered across the cage with Maia draped on his back.

Maia continued to work the back of Kim, finally getting a trip takedown from the back as Kim fought for balance. As Kim hit the mat, it appeared that he may have broken a rib during the fall. Maia landed in full mount and landed a couple of punches before the fight was stopped.

With the win, Maia improves to 16-4 overall (10-4 UFC), and is now poised to take on the UFC’s welterweight division.
