UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione

Today UFC officials announced two new heavyweight matchups for the UFC on FOX 4 event which is set to take place on August 4th at the Los Angeles Staples Center.

Matt Mitrione (5-1) will take on Rob Broughton (15-7-1) and Oli Thompson (9-3) will face Philip De Fries (8-1). These additions will likely be part of the preliminary card which should air on Fuel TV and Facebook, the headline fight for the event will be Brian Stann vs. Hector Lombard.

Matt Mitrione will enter this fight coming off his first career loss at the hands of Cheick Kongo at UFC 137 last October, losing via unanimous decision and will now look to bounce back against Broughton. Prior to the loss against Kongo he had built up a five fight winning streak with notable victories over Kimbo Slice, Tim Hague, and Christian Morecraft.

Rob Broughton entered the UFC with a solid debut performance defeating Vinicius Queiroz at UFC 120 back in October 2010. Since then he has been on a slide dropping back to back decision losses to Travis Browne and Philip De Fries. Prior to joining the UFC Rob achieved success by becoming the Cage Rage Heavyweight Champion and also winning the ZT Fight Night Heavyweight tournament.

Oli Thompson lost his UFC debut earlier this year at UFC on FX 2 in Sydney, Australia, with Shawn Thompson defeating him with a second round TKO. The former British strongman had built up a five fight winning streak before joining the UFC and will now look to get back on track.

Phil De Fries is (1-1) in the UFC with his debut victory over Rob Broughton at UFC 138. He followed that performance with a first round knockout loss to Stipe Miocic at UFC on Fuel TV 1 earlier this year. Before this loss Phil had built up a record of 8-0 and will now get the opportunity to return to winning form.
