UFC on Fuel TV 2 results and play-by-play

STOCKHOLM, Sweden — “UFC on Fuel TV 2: Gustafsson vs. Silva” takes place today at Ericsson Globe Arena in the UFC’s first ever visit to Sweden. Headlining the card is a light heavyweight bout between top contenders Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson and Thiago Silva.

Also on the card is a light heavyweight match-up between Brian Stann and Alessio Sakara and a welterweight match-up between Paulo Thiago and Siyar Bahadurzada in his UFC debut.

UFC on Fuel TV 2 play-by-play:

 (135 lbs.) Damacio Page vs. Brad Pickett

Round 1 – They come out swinging and Pickett ends up on top of Page with a takedown. Upkick from Page, Pickett backs up and lets him up. Body kick from Page. Goes for a high kick and slips. Body shot from Page. Nice knee to the noggin from Page then a big double leg takedown putting Pickett on his back and taking control in side mount. Pickett gets up though and slams Page down with a double leg, landing in half guard. Nice ground and pound from Pickett. Page looks for an arm but Pickett unleashes more punishment and is inside full guard. Pickett stacks up with punches and elbows. Page makes his way back to the feet, they exchange a few shots then Pickett puts him back down with another double leg. After a few punches from Pickett, Page uses the fence to get up only to get taken down once more, this time with a single leg. PMN scores the round 10-9 Pickett.

Round 2 – Left punch, head kick from Page both blocked. Pickett with a one two, shoots, big double leg slam but Page gets right up. Nice left hook to the chin from Pickett and Page goes down. Pickett swarms with punches and lays down inside Page’s full guard. Pickett with the ground and pound. Page turns to his belly, nose bleeding. Pickett jumps into a guillotine attempt but Page is out and now is on top in side control. Pickett gets to his knees, takes a knee from Page to the body. Two minutes to go. They stand in the clinch, separate and begin swinging. Big uppercut from Pickett. Page shoots, stuffed and Pickett takes his back, hooks in and looking for the choke. Flattens him out and Page taps out. Pickett hops up and does a back handspring celebration. Very fast-paced technical fight. Beautiful!

(170 lbs.) John Maguire vs. DaMarques Johnson

Round 1 – Inside leg kick from Johnson. Again. Again. Nice overhand left to the single leg shot takedown, beautiful transition and Johnson is on his back with full closed guard on Johnson. He opens the guard, lands elbows from bottom, then attacks Maquire’s arm with an omoplata, they scramble and Maguire escapes ending up inside full guard again. Maguire with elbow attacks from the top. Johnson landing swiping elbows from off his back. Maguire passes to half guard.He moves to the other side as Johnson bucks up and tries to make something happen from the bottom. Johnson gets to his knees. Maguire takes his back, hooks in, looking for the choke but Johnson survives the round. PMN scores the round 10-9 Maguire.

Round 2 – Big overhand left from Maguire lands on the chin as he shoots for the takedown but ends up on his back with Johnson landing ground and pound from the top. Johnson moves to side control. Maguuire gets to his knees. Johnson stacks up with a nice right but Maguire gets to his feet. He blocks a head kick. Big leg kick from Johnson. Again. Body shot from Johnson. They tie up against the cage as Maguire scoops out Johnson’s legs for a takedown. After some ground and pound from Maguire Johnson looks for a kimura from bottom. Maguire steps over for an armbar, straightens it out, cranks it and Johnson taps quickly. Maguire moves to 2-0 in the UFC.

(145 lbs.) Diego Nunes vs. Dennis Siver

Round 1 – This is Siver’s featherweight debut. Misses a high kick. Nunes misses a low kick. Low kick from Nunes. High kick from Siver connects, twice. Left hook and crazy takedown from Siver but Nunes doesn’t go fully down and pops right up. Fires off a high kick that Siver dodges. Siver checks a low kick, misses a low kick. Lands a body kick with his left. Left hook from Nunes, countered by inside leg kick from Siver. Spinning back kick from Nunes. Siver checks a low kick. Leg kick Nunes. Left hand from Nunes but Siver lands a one two counter. Spinning back kick from Nunes connects. One minute go go. They trade body kicks. Left hand from Siver. Left from Nunes. Right from Siver. Spinning wheel kick from Nunes. Huge leg kick from Siver follows. Nunes grabs half a plum, lands knees as Siver returns with body punches; about three strikes from each. Great first round; I give the slight edge to Siver 10-9.

Round 2 – Touch gloves. Siver checks a low kick, blocks a wheel kick. Siver checks a low kick, again. Siver using good movement. Siver ducks a spinning backfist, shoots for a takedown but Nunes won’t go easily. Squares back up with Siver. One two from Siver. Leg kick from Nunes. Front kick from Siver. Siver lands a  low blow. After a brief time ou. They square back up. Left hand on the chin from Siver. Left jab, leg kick, spinning wheel kick from Siver. Big leg kick and a left hand from Siver after Nunes initiates the clinch. Siver turning it up a notch toward the end of this round. Nunes throws a late wheel kick and luckily Siver ducks it. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Siver.

Round 3 – Right hand and a front kick from Siver. Leg kick from Nunes. Siver ducks a wheel kick. Right hand from Nunes. Siver is rocked. Left hook from Siver following a Thai plum from Nunes. These guys are firing off some very technical combinations. Right hand, left leg kick from Siver. Beautiful fight. Leg kick from Nunes. Again, to the outside this time. Left hook from Siver on the button. Leg kick Nunes. Leg kick Siver. Collar tie and a knee from Nunes. Right hook from Siver as Nunes grabs the plum. Leg kick Nunes. Body shot from Siver. Clinch from Nunes, Siver pushes him off after Nunes misses a knee. Spinning back kick from Nunes. Left hook from Nunes. Siver bleeding from his forehead pretty significantly. Siver shoots, stuffed. Forty seconds left. Siver lands a punch combo and Nunes goes down but hops right up and they fire off punches and kicks. Siver clinches, Nunes pushes him off. Fight of the freaking Night—my god this was awesome! Just amazing technical fighting, offensively and defensively. PMN scores the round 10-9 Siver and 30-27 for Siver for the fight.

(170 lbs.) Siyar Bahadurzada vs. Paulo Thiago

Round 1 – They square up, measuring each other, Thiago fires off an overhand right as he lunges in, but gets caught with a counter right to the chin and Thiago falls face first to the canvas and he is out cold — one-hitter quitter. And Siyar Bahadurzada makes a successful highly-anticipated UFC debut.

Siyar said afterward he thinks he may have broke his right hand just before the fight but didn’t even want to get it checked out due to the chance they may have not let him fight. He also said he enjoys competing against guys like Thiago because they come to fight.

(185 lbs.) Brian Stann vs. Alessio Sakara

Round 1 – Touch gloves. Big leg kick Stann. Nice feints from Stann. Leg kick again. Leg kick again, Sakara counters with a one two. Stann blocks a left hook. Body shot from Sakara. An exchange the likes of which made my head spin just took place. No use in even attempting to type out all the punches and kicks and knees that just took place, let’s just say–it was awesome! Stann lands a right hook, collar tie and a knee to the chin drops Sakara. Stann stacks him with punches, lays down inside full guard. Stann works the ground and pound, lands a couple big left hands while holding Sakara’s face with his other hand and Sakara’s eyes roll back, he is out, covers up his face in pain as he wakes up after the next punch and the referee steps in.

(205 lbs.) Alexander Gustafsson vs. Thiago Silva

Round 1 –  They come out swinging. Gustafasson drops Silva with a punch. He jumps on him on the ground but Silva is able to get to his feet and they square up again. Gustafsson goes back to striking, staying calm and the whole arena is chanting for their Swede. Gustafsson using his left jab to find rand, lands a right low kick. Silva connects with a right, then a leg kick. Gustafsson fires back with a punch combo and there’s a cut on Silva’s forehead or bridge of his nose. Nice double jab and a right from Gustafsson. Leg kick, front kick. Leg kick from Silva spins Gustafsson around in a circle. Double jab from Gustafsson. He’s using nice foot work, continuously moving. Paiwng with his jab, high kick from Gustafsson. Silva calls him forward. PMN scores the round 10-9 Gustafsson.

Round 2 – Gustafsson tosses Silva to the ground. Ref lets him up. Gustafsson pumps the left jab, connects with the right. Leg kick, leg kick again. Silva with a leg kick. Leg kick from Gustafsson again. Big leg kick from Silva. Nice punch combo from Gustafsson backs Silva up. Silva lands a right that backs Gustafsson up. Lands another one although Gusfsson lands his own. They briefly clinch agains the cage. Gustafsson working the jab, ducks Silva’s overhand right. Right hand from Silva, left jab. Gustafsson using good movement and excellent footwork, front kick to the body from Gustafsson. PMN scores the round 10-9 Gustafsson.

Round 3 – A little mouse under Silva’s right eye. Leg kick from Gustafsson and the crowd chants for the Swede. Left hand from Silva, knee from Gustafsson. Nice right hook fro Silva. Right from Gustafsson. Collar tie and knee to the chin from Gustafsson,  he backs Silva up, big leg kick. He’s out-pointing Silva pretty significantly it seems. They trade a few solid leg kicks. Silva’s eye looking worse for the wear. One minute to go. Leg kick Gustafsson. Collar tie and knee to the chin from the Swede and then a nice right hand. Silva hangs tough and keeps coming forward. Right counter from Silva. Silva hunting, Gustafsson keeps him at bay with jabs and punches as time is running down. Silva misses an uppercut as Gustafsson dodges. Time is out and Silva looks very frustrated. Great gameplan for the Swede. PMN scores the round 10-9 and the fight 30-27 for Gustafsson.
