UFC heavyweight Pat Barry

The UFC on FOX 3 event is shaping up quite nicely, and it seems like the promotion is certainly trying to put fights together on paper which should translate into fireworks on TV. Heavyweights Pat Barry and Lavar Johnson have verbally agreed to face one another on May 5th which will be the third event to air on FOX.

Lavar Johnson (16-5) made a big UFC splash when he took out Joey Beltran at the UFC on FOX 2 event last week. He became the first fighter to ever finish Beltran in MMA competition, doing so with a barrage of uppercuts until Beltran fell face first on the canvas as the referee jumped in to stop the fight. Johnson has never had a fight go to the judges and 14 of his 16 wins are via TKO/KO.

Pat Barry (7-4) fought just a week earlier on the UFC on FX event where he demolished Christian Morecraft with a left hook to the head after surviving a couple of close submission attempts in the first round. The former kickboxer has won six of his seven victories via TKO/KO, so it’s safe to say that this fight will probably not make it to the judges.

It was also announced that the lightweight fight between Jim Miller and Nate Diaz will be the main event for the UFC on FOX 3 show, and the fight will be a five round affair. UFC on FOX 3 is set to take place in East Rutherford, New Jersey, at the IZOD Center. The tentative lineup so far is below:

  • Jim Miller vs. Nate Diaz
  • Pat Barry vs. Lavar Johnson
  • Tony Ferguson vs. Dennis Hallman
  • John Dodson vs. Darren Uyenoyama
