LAS VEGAS (January 24, 2012) XYIENCE, maker of Xenergy—the official energy drink of the UFC, and GNC—will host an autograph signing in Chicago with XYIENCE team athlete Anthony “Showtime” Pettis who fights in the UFC’s lightweight division. The event is Saturday, January 28, from 3 to 4 p.m. at the GNC store located at 211 Chicago Ridge Mall, Chicago Ridge, Ill.. The event coincides with UFC® on FOX 2: Evans vs. Davis that takes place later that evening at the United Center in Chicago.

Pettis (12-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) started his martial arts career at the early age of 5 years old; he celebrates his 25th birthday on Friday, Jan. 27.  He is currently slated to face Joe Lauzon at UFC® 144: Edgar vs. Henderson on February 25 at the Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo, Japan.

“Chicago is one of my favorite cities, so I’m looking forward to spending part of my birthday weekend with local MMA fans,” says Pettis, who captured the World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) lightweight world title in December 2010. The UFC and WEC merged in late 2010, making Pettis the final fighter to hold the league’s title. “The fans are the backbone of our sport and they inspire me everyday. Thanks to XYIENCE and GNC for putting this event together.”

During his 2010 WEC title fight against Ben Henderson, Pettis performed a unique move and coined it the “Showtime Kick” by using the cage as a lateral springboard to launch a roundhouse kick to his opponent’s face in the final minute of the fight. That moment was recognized by ESPN as a 2010 Top 10 Highlight Reel. It was also featured on CNN and has been viewed over two million times on YouTube. Pettis resides and trains in his hometown of Milwaukee, Wis.
