The UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem will take place this Friday night, not Saturday night like usual UFC ppv events due to the New Year holiday taking place this weekend. It’s a huge card with two huge heavyweights in the main event, but there are some fights with major implications taking place on this card as well. Let’s look at three huge storylines going into the event.

When I say 100% healthy I’m referring to Lesnar’s past history with Diverticulitis. It’s completely possible for him to go into this bout with some sort of injury as most fighters often do. Overeem has fought all over the world, but this will be his first fight in the UFC octagon and he’s in the main event with arguably one of the most popular fighters in the sport. Lesnar is already an intimidating figure, but it’ll be interesting to see if Overeem will perform well under the pressure. I think all the pressure is on him considering that Lesnar is coming off the surgery and Overeem certainly wants to provide a good impression to fans in his UFC debut.

I think many people have this fight circled as one of the fights they most want to see on Friday night. I’ve never seen a boring Nate Diaz fight except the time he let Clay Guida lay and pray him to death at UFC 94. We know that Donald Cerrone is an exciting fighter. However, there’s quite a bit riding on this fight with Cerrone as he has won four fights in the UFC this year. That has put him in a great position to be one or two wins away from a title shot. A loss to Diaz would be devastating so I wonder if Cerrone will let Diaz bring the fight to him or if he’ll take the initiative and apply pressure as he’s been doing in his past couple of bouts?

This is a very dangerous fight for Jon Fitch in my opinion. He’s coming off a long layoff plus surgery, while fighting someone with the same strengths as him. Hendricks is the underdog by odds makers and I would certainly put some bucks on him in this one. Fitch has had problems against guys with solid wrestling in the past and Hendricks is the most decorated amateur wrestler he’s ever faced. Hendricks also has really good power in his hands, so this fight is definitely one to be on lookout for.
