SAN DIEGO – Fighter weigh-ins for “Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal” took place Friday afternoon at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, the same location that will host Saturday’s Showtime-televised event.

Headliners Gilbert Melendez, the current Strikeforce lightweight champion, and Jorge Masvidal, both weighed in at exactly 155 pounds, the maximum allowed for a lightweight championship bout.

Female featherweight titleholder Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos and her opponent Hiroko Yamanaka of Japan both weighed in at 145 pounds even, the maximum allowed for a featherweight title bout.

Originally scheduled for a welterweight bout, Roger Bowling and Jerron Peoples agreed to a catchweight of 179 pounds after it became obvious Peoples could not make weight. However, Peoples still missed weight, coming in at 180.5 pounds. He was given additional time to try and make the newly contracted catchweight but failed and will have to pay a fine. Bowling weighed in at 170 pounds.
