ATLANTIC CITY —  Bellator 49 takes place this evening at the Caesars in Atlantic City, and features the quarterfinals of Bellator’s Season 5 welterweight tournament.

The action kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET (3:30 p.m. PT) with the preliminary card and then moves to MTV 2 with the main card airing at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT). ProMMAnow.com (www.prommanow.com) will provide LIVE results and play-by-play commentary of all the action.

Bellator Welterweight Tournament Quarterfinal

Douglas Lima vs. Steve Carl 

Round 1 – Lima with a jab, then follows up with a big leg kick. Carl lands a huge right hand that rocks Lima, Carl comes forward as lima drops and nearly gets his head kicked off from an upkick.  Carl on top, but Lima grabs a leg, and as Carl steps out of trouble, Lima reverses and is now on top. Carl very active from his closed guard. Carl walks his legs up and is landing left hands from his back. Lima remains calm and lands a right hand after posturing. Lima stands and lands a blistering kick to the leg of Carl. Back to the feet. Looping right hand again by Carl. Carl goes upstairs and slips trying to land a head kick. Lima with a big leg kick. Lima with a big right hand, then a left. Carl coming forward and gets caught with a right hand. Lima sweeps the leg with a kick and is now in side mount. Carl retains guard but only for a moment as Lima works back to side control. Lima stands and kicks the leg again. Carl is back up and takes the center of the cage. Another kick from Lima. Round 2 – Jab from Lima, kick by Lima. Carl grabs the leg and throws a right and Lima is on his back. Carl with a right hand, then drops to his back going for a leg. Lima defends and is now on top. Lima is working on passing but gets stuck in half guard. Carl works and retains full guard. Carl is controlling the posture of Lima nicely and avoiding damage from the top. Lima steps out and up. Right hand from Lima. Carl has his hands completely down by his waist and is breathing out of his mouth. Push kick from Lima. Lead left hand from Lima scores. Inside leg kick, and big left hook from Lima. Carl shoots from way outside and Lima easily sprawls, but Carl grabs him and pulls guard. Carl going for the kimura, and Lima steps over and out. Lima stacks Carl, throws his legs over and takes side control. Lima lands a diving left hand, and Carl goes for the kimura again. Good round for Lima. ProMMAnow.com scores Round 2 for Lima.

Round 3 – Nice kick to the body by Lima and he follows up with a leg kick. Carl comes forward throwing and Lima counters with a big left hook that scores. Another kick from Lima and Carl looks hurt. Lima steps in with a stiff right hand that lands flush. Carl just misses with a right hand. Push kick by Lima and a straight right. All Lima so far. Carl clinches then halfway goes for a bodylock take down but ends up on his back. Lima is working to pass guard again, and does. Carl kicks off and tries to retain guard but cannot. He grabs an arm and works for the kimura again. Lima frees his arm and is trying again to pass after getting stuck back in the full guard of Carl. Lima passes easily and is back in side control. Lima in full control of the bout now. Lima advances to full mount as Carl holds on for dear life. Lima postures and throws and Carl sits up. Lima gives up the position to go for the rear naked choke but ends up getting reversed. Carl now on top. Big left hands from Carl from the top now. Luis Santos vs. Dan Hornbuckle

Round 1 – Jab from Dan to start. Leg kick from Santos. Dan goes high but the kick is blocked. Santos with a big kick to the head that clips Dan. Big leg kick from Santos. He is doing work with his kicks. Exchange from both but Dan circles out and away. Another leg kick from Santos. Right hand from Dan and Santos counters. Nice jab from Dan. Another. Switch kick from Santos, then he leans in with a big right hand to the body. Leg kick from Santos. Dan triples up his jab. Leaping right hand from Santos just misses. Dan comes forward with the right hand. Big head kick from Santos staggers Dan. Santos comes forward and takes Dan down easily but stands over his open guard instead of following him to the ground. Santos waves him up and Dan gets up. Huge leg kick from Santos nearly takes Dan off his feet. More leg kicks. Big round for Santos. ProMMAnow.com scores Round 1 for Santos, 10-9.

Round 2 – Santos with a leg kick. Dan comes forward and lands a right hand. Santos is blistering Dan with kicks. Dan goes with one of his own upstairs but it’s blocked. Leg kick from Dan outside. Inside leg kick for Dan scores. Dan is stalking Santos. Dan comes forward and Santos closes the distance and takes him down. This time Santos is in the guard of Dan. Short right hands from Dan, and the referee quickly stands them up and restarts them. Right hand from Dan, leg kick from Santos. Jab from Dan, then he misses badly with a right hand before eating another leg kick. Santos goes upstairs but Dan blocks the kick. Dan steps in for a right hand but eats yet another leg kick. Santos is winning this fight with his kicks. Dan switches stances and throws two right hands that miss. Dan goes up top, but Santos easily blocks it. Santos with another huge kick. Dan with a knee to the body, and Santos grabs the single and puts him on the cage. Dan gets his leg out, and now Santos has him pressed against the cage. End of Round. Round 3 – Big exchange, not much lands clean. Dan is much more aggressive now, probably knows he’s down two rounds to none. Santos with a head kick and he slips and ends up on his back. Dan leaps in and almost gets caught with a an upkick. Santos gets to his feet quickly, then uses a nice judo throw to put Dan on his back. Santos hasn’t done much from the top on each occasion that he has been here. Once again, he is just laying in the guard, and not even attempting to posture. Dan with some rubber guard, but then goes back to an open guard. Not much action as the referee steps in to take a look. He leaves them on the mat for now. Santos is stalling on top and the referee stands them up. Dan comes forward and both guys throw right hands that land. Santos, leg kick. Santos jab, then overhand right. He’s in control. Body shot from Dan, but it’s one and done. Santos isn’t allowing any combos. He’s circling out after one punch. Not much action now as the time is winding down. Santos with a big right hand and a big head kick that staggers Dan. Santos attacks, and Dan tries desperately to get a take down to survive, but ends up getting pushed into the cage as time runs out. Ben Saunders vs. Chris Cisneros

Round 1 – Ben comes out quick with a head kick, and then another. Super fast start. Ben pushes Chris against the cage and lands a big knee to the face. Chris gets double unders, turns, and puts Ben against the cage. Ben gets the body lock and puts Cisneros on his back. Ben in side control now. Cisneros tries to use the cage to kick off, but Ben keeps his tight top control. Ben transitions to full mount and is flattening Cisneros out. Left hands from Ben. Ben traps the right arm of Chris and starts throwing strikes. Chris tries to roll but the cage is in the way. Ben is half-on, half-off his back and landing big left hands. Ben has one hook in and is still punishing Chris with left hands. Alternating between going for the neck, and landing strikes to the head and body. Total domination from Ben. Chris scrambles and is on top but only for a second. Ben reverses and isolates the right arm of Chris sweeps and is on top again. Ben scrambles, gets to his knees and goes for a leg, but Chris ends up on top with just under a minute to go in the round. Right hand from Chris. He steps out and away and lands a kick to the leg. Ben kicks and starts to get to his feet, but Chris comes forward and keeps Ben grounded. Diving right hand from Chris and Ben locks up a triangle as the round ends. Round 2 – Big kick to the body from Ben. Ben misses with a right hand and Chris steps in and takes the back of Ben, and works him to the ground. Ben is on top after they scramble and is now in side control. Ben isolates the arm again going for the kimura from side mount but Chris fights it off for the time being. Chris explodes off his back but Ben maintains top control. Chris is turtled, then rolls to his back. He still has Ben on top and in side control. Ben is looking to slide across the body but it’s blocked. Ben then goes to some big knees to the body and shoulder of Chris. Left hands from Ben as he traps the arm of Chris. Chris is scrambling but is getting dominated by the top control of Saunders. Ben goes for another arm lock, but Chris scrambles out but is still on his back and is now eating left hands. Ben going for the right arm again, more of a straight arm bar attempt this time, but he can’t finish it. Right hands now from the top. Dominating round for Saunders. Round 3 – Ben with a kick to the body. Chris just misses with an uppercut as Ben comes forward. Huge right hand for Chris, and both guys are throwing bombs. Ben goes to the plum clinch. This is where he is mad dangerous. One knee, two knee, three, four, and Cisneros is down and it’s all over!!!

Chris Lozano vs. Brent Weedman

Round 1 – Lozano coming out quick with the left then a big right hand. He follows up with a knee, and then Weedman counters with a clipping right hand that drops Lozano. Lozano scrambles up and Weedman is all over him looking for a take down. Weedman locks his hands, drives Lozano off the cage and gets the double leg take down. Lozano is working on the right arm of Weedman, but Brent works to the side and takes the back of Lozano. Multiple knees from Weedman. Lozano turns Weedman into the cage, then gets the big throw. Back to the feet now and they separate. Weedman stalking, throws a right hand, then gets a big body lock slam. Weedman gets a hook in, and Lozano scrambles. Weedman keeps control and looks for the rear naked choke. He gets both hooks in for a moment as Lozano tries to stand. Weedman throws a right hand but is still looking for the choke. Left hands to the body from the top. Weedman has the body triangle locked up now. Lozano is fighting hard to survive the opening round with Weedman in a dominating top position on his back. Round 2 – Jabs from both. Kicks by both. Big exchange, then clinch from Brent. Big exchanges after the separation and Lozano lands a crushing right hand inside. Clinch from Weedman, and then knees. Uppercut just misses from Lozano. Nice left hands from Lozano. Lozano getting the better of the exchanges, but he looks like he is very tired. Weedman steps in for a kick and gets caught. Big knee fro Lozano. Weedman looks hurt but he’s still coming forward. Looping right hand misses by Weedman, then he lands a stiff right hand. Straight right from Lozano. Wow, they are throwing everything they have! Big right hand, then a lead left hook, right hand scores from Lozano. Another lead left hook from Lozano. Nice jab from Weedman, but then he eats a big left hand. Weedman drops for a take down against the cage, but don’t get it. ProMMAnow.com scores Round 2 for Chris Lozano, 10-9.

Round 3 – Kick to the body from Lozano. Leg kick from Weedman, and Lozano catches it, pushes Brent and jumps in the air for a flying knee and right hand. Spinning back kick now, and again, and Weedman uses the momentum of Lozano to try to get the take down. Lozano defending the single leg, and he’s now in a sitting position trying to get back to his feet against the cage. He scrambles out, but Weedman stays persistant and puts Lozano back down but only for a moment. Lozano uses a throw to reverse and he’s now going for a d’arce choke on Weedman. He lets it go and is working to free his leg to get to a full mount. Short right hands from the top. More right hands to the body from Lozano. Lozano works on the Americana now. He lets the sub attempt go and lands more right hands. Weedman tries to shrimp out but gives up his back. Weedman turns into Lozano and he’s off his back. He wraps up the legs of Lozano and drags him down but ends up on his back again. Weedman still trying to get to the corner to reverse. He gets the leg and the take down but Lozano scrambles to his feet. Weedman has his back, and drags him down just before the bell.
