Nick Diaz wanted nothing to do with Wednesday’s UFC 137 press conference which he dubbed a “beauty pageant”, and as a result, he was pulled from the main event by UFC president Dana White, effectively ending any possibility that he would fight Georges St. Pierre for the welterweight championship.

There was speculation from the media and fans alike that the incident may even cost Diaz his job with the organization, but at yesterday’s press conference, Dana White was not quite ready to commit to issuing Diaz his walking papers.

With the elevation of Carlos Condit to the main event to face St. Pierre for the welterweight title, Condit’s former co-main event opponent, B.J. Penn, was left without an opponent — until about an hour ago.

UFC president Dana White tweeted that fans would get to see Diaz at UFC 137, but it wouldn’t be against GSP, instead he will be facing B.J. Penn in the night’s co-main event.

White corrected the date on his next tweet; UFC 137 actually takes place on Oct. 29.
