Former WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner will clash with rising talent Nate Jolly in a 155-pound main event bout at XFC 14, which is scheduled to take place at UCF Arena in Orlando, Fla., on Wednesday, Oct. 21, and will broadcast LIVE on HDNet.

Xtreme Fighting Championships confirmed the match-up Sunday via press release.

Although Jolly (10-3) at 29-years-old, is three years the elder, Varner (17-5-1, 2 NC) has been fighting professionally about five years longer. It really is the case of a seasoned veteran and former world champion taking on a talented up-and-comer who at this point can only hope to accomplish the things Varner has in his career.

Jolly commented on the match-up:

“I’m coming in to put on a show. I know Jamie Varner is a legend. He’s a dynamic fighter but so am I. I don’t take him lightly and I have nothing but respect for him but I see this as my coming out party. I’m really looking forward to XFC 14. This is without a doubt the biggest fight of my career and the fans on HDNet will get to see what Nate Jolly is all about.”

Armed with a strong wrestling background and vicious ground and pound, Jolly is a product of Team Oxendine in Johnson City, Tenn. Jolly has fought twice so far this year, scoring a unanimous decision win over Ronnie Rogers in January and dropping a unanimous decision to Zach Juusola in April.

Jolly made a successful Xtreme Fighting Championships debut at XFC 7 back in January 2009 when he scored a third round TKO win over Johnny Cardona in Knoxville.

Varner has fought just once since being released from the WEC last year. Fortunately for him, he was able to snap a three-fight losing streak by defeating Tyler Combs via technical submission at XFO 39 in May.

Also scheduled for XFC 14 is a heavyweight tilt involving Scott “The Bear” Barrett taking on Chase Gormley. Stay tuned to ProMMAnow.com as more fights for XFC 14 are announced. See our Upcoming Events page for the full fight card line-up as it stands.
