Bellator Fighting Championships has signed Sengoku veteran Michael Costa. The Chute Boxe veteran is currently training with the Wand Fight Team.

“Michael Costa has all the tools to have a breakout year and his no nonsense approach in the cage made him a perfect fit for Bellator”, said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney. “His addition to our welterweight division makes a strong 170 lbs. class that much stronger.”

Costa is currently 10-5-1 as a professional. He dropped both of his fights under the Sengoku banner to Nick Thompson and Makoto Takimoto. However, in his last fight, he picked up a TKO victory over Danny Salinas at STFC 14 last November.

“Anyone that has seen me fight before knows that I fight with all my heart, and that I fight to finish my fights by knockout,” said Costa. “For me, fighting is a war. I want to finish all of my fights with Bellator so the fans remember my name.”

Last weekend, Jay Hieron defeated Olympian Rick Hawn to win the season-four Bellator welterweight tournament. With the tournament title, he earns a shot a promotional champion Ben Askren. Costa is expected to take part in the next welterweight tournament.
