Mirko Cro Cop(left) fell victim to Brendan Schaub at UFC 128

It was a old lion trying to take out a young lion when Mirko Cro Cop and Brendan Schaub met up at UFC 128. The old lion fought valiantly, but it was Brendan Schaub that came out the winner in a grueling fight fought mostly in the clinch.

The larger Schaub used his size, speed, and timing to dictate where the fight took place most of the time. A great deal of this fight took place in the clinch, where Schaub kept Mirko against the cage landing knees and short uppercuts. Schaub was able to take Mirko down quite a few times, landing some decent ground and pound as well. Schaub was warned for a strike to the back of Mirko’s head in round 1, and a point was deducted for that very thing in round 2 which evened things up.

Mirko was able to bust Schaub up quite a bit with short elbows in the clinch. He also landed a few patented straights lefts. We even saw the patented head kick several times, but Schaub blocked all of them.

Schaub was bleeding from the nose and over the eye when he took Mirko down in the final round while landing some ground and pound. However, once the fight got back to the feet, Schaub timed a Mirko kick perfectly landing a huge overhand right that put Mirko down for the count. It is Schaub’s fourth win in a row and the second loss in a row for Mirko Cro Cop.
