Richie “Hell Boy” Whitson of Team Quest Clinches Fifth Straight Win at MFC 28

Temecula, CA. – March 2, 2011 – Team Quest fighter Richie “Hell Boy” Whitson made an impressive showing over the weekend at MFC 28 during his bout against Curtis “The Demon” Demarce. Whitson ended his opponent’s seven fight win streak and clinched his fifth straight win with a split decision victory. MFC 28: Supremacy took place on February 25, 2011 in Enoch, Alberta Canada.

Richie “Hell Boy” Whitson (11-1-0) is a well-rounded fighter who is as good on the ground as he is on his feet, with a record stacked with KO’s and submissions to prove it. Whitson’s impressive MFC 28 win did not come easy, as he encountered several setbacks along the way.

Three weeks prior to his recent MFC 28 bout, Whitson suffered an injury during training. The injury prevented the Team Quest fighter from straightening his arm, limiting his training to pad work and conditioning for the last few weeks leading up to the fight. To add insult to injury, Whitson’s original opponent, Cajon Johnson, had to withdraw from the fight two weeks prior the event, forcing Whitson to adjust his game plan and face a new contender.

Despite setbacks, including an injury to his lead arm that rendered his jab ineffective and a gash above his left eye inflicted early in the first round, Whitson pulled out a split decision victory. The explosive lightweight battle also earned fight of the night bragging rights. Whitson plans to go undefeated in 2011 and has his sights on facing the winner of Davis vs. Johnson.

Richie “Hell Boy” Whitson had this to say, “It was a tough fight, Demarce is a notable opponent and I’m very happy with the win. As for my next bout, I would really like to face the winner of Marcus Davis vs. Kajan Johnson. I feel that I’ve earned it and would welcome the opportunity.”

As a result of his pre-fight training injury, Whitson is heading back to his hometown of Sitka, Alaska to have surgery on his elbow. He expects a short recovery and is looking forward to getting back into the ring as soon as possible.

According to Whitson, “I’m heading home to Alaska this week to have elbow surgery, but it’s just a minor setback. I’ll be back in the ring soon and stronger than ever. I want to thank the coaches at Team Quest and my friends and family for their support. I wouldn’t be where I’m at in my career without them.”
