ST. PETERSBURG, Russia — All fighters except English welterweight Che Mills (11-4) weighed-in successfully Wednesday for M-1 Challenge XXI which takes place tomorrow at the Ice Palace. Mills was 1 lb. over the 171 lb. welterweight non-title fight limit for his bout against undefeated Magomed “The Eagle” Shikshabekov (7-0).
M-1 Director of Operations, Evgeni Kogan, commented,
“Magomed Shikshabekov has shown nothing but class in the unfortunate circumstances surrounding his opponent failing to make weight. Although there is never an excuse for missing the cut-off, Che Mills and his team made every effort they could despite not having their bags and training gear arrive with them upon landing. Thanks to both fighters for agreeing that the bout will go ahead as scheduled.”
Dubbed as “the hottest card produced in Europe this fall,” “M-1 Challenge XXI: Guram vs. Garner” will stream LIVE on www.M-1Global.com Oct. 28 starting at 11:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. PT.
The event features two championship bouts including a M-1 Challenge lightweight title fight between M-1 Selection Eastern Europe 2010 champion Artiom Damkovsky (7-4) and M-1 Selection Western Europe 2010 champion Mairbek Taisumov (12-2).
And in the main event, M-1 Selection 2010 Americas champion Kenny Garner (5-2) takes on undefeated M-1 Selection 2010 Western Europe champion Guram Gugenishvili (9-0) in an M-1 Challenge heavyweight title fight.
