SAN JOSE, Calif. – “Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Noons 2” takes place this evening, Oct. 9, at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. and will air LIVE on Showtime beginning at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. Stay close as ProMMAnow.com provides live results and play-by-play commentary of all the action.

In the main event, Nick Diaz will put his welterweight title on the line in a rematch with talented boxer KJ Noons, who got the win in their first fight in 2007 when the doctor stopped the bout due to cuts over Diaz’s eyes. Diaz believes the fight should not have been stopped and wants to prove that Noons is not on his level.

Also on the card, Strikeforce 135 lb. women’s champion Sarah Kaufman will defend her title for the second time as she faces Dutch submission artist Marloes Coenen, former lightweight champ Josh Thomson will face the 2007 K-1 HERO’s middleweight grand prix champion Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante, and two-time All American wrestler Tyron Woodley will face multiple-time BJJ world champion Andre Galvao..

“Diaz vs. Noons 2″ play-by-play:

Andre Galvao vs. Tyron Woodley

Round 1 – Here we go! Rosenthal is the ref in this one. Touch of gloves and we are off. Jab from both right off the bat. Galvao misses with a looping right hand. Woodley misses with the right hand. Galvao shoots but is stuffed and takes some shots from Woodley before getting back to his feet. Woodley kicks and gets caught with a left hand. Galvao still looking to get the fight on the ground and gets tagged again. Big looping right hand and kick misses from Galvao, and Woodley counters with a big punch that staggers Galvao. Galvao trying to change levels and get the fight to the round then takes a big shot. He’s back up but is wobbling like a drunk man taking a field sobriety test. Galvao weakly goes for the ankles again and takes another punch and he’s about done. Woodley lands another right hand before Rosenthal steps in and stops it.

135 lbs. Women’s TITLE FIGHT
Sarah Kaufman vs. Marloes Coenen

Round 1 – Well, referee Dan Stell forgot where he was for a minute announcing just what these ladies are fighting for… OK he’s got it now. Leg kick misses by Coenen to start. Kaufman looking for her jab early. Kaufman lands a nice straight right hand. Left hand/kick combo from Coenen. Coenen looks for a combo early trying to put punches together, but eats a nice straight punch from Kaufman. Coenen is mixing in her kicks nicely to set up her hands and keep the distance to her advantage. Left hook from Coenen, then Kaufman lands a right hand, forcing Coenen to clinch. Kaufman reverses and puts Coenen on the cage. Kaufman trying to break free to get some distance, but Coenen hangs on. The referee breaks them up after a brief stall. Restart in the center of the cage, and Coenen lands a nice right hand, then a solid left hook before going back to the clinch. Knees from both ladies against the cage in the clinch. Kaufman works for double unders and gets them, but isn’t able to do much with them at this point. Boos from the crowd, come on people! Once again, Stell separates the fighters. Nice jab from Kaufman. Kick returned from Coenen. Leg kick scores from Coenen. She puts together another nice combo landing 2 punches to Kaufman’s one. Close first round, but Pro MMA now scores the round 10-9, for Coenen.

Round 2 – Nice jab and right hand from Kaufman, she’s coming out with more aggression early. Coenen lands a nice right hand. Exchange from both. Coenen steps in and clinches, then uses an overhook to try a throw. Kaufman defends nicely, keeps the clinch, and pushes Coenen against the cage. More boos from the crowd… Guess they don’t realize this is a 5 round fight. Both ladies fighting for position, digging for underhooks against the cage as Stell calls for action. Not enough action for Stell, he separates them again. Nice right hand, left kick combo. Coenen is throwing more combos, more often. Just as I say that, Kaufman puts together a 3 punch barrage. Coenen steps back and gets her spacing again. Big body kick from Coenen that Kaufman catches. Kaufman clinches and pushes Coenen against the cage. Shamrock said that the kick hurt his liver…. wrong side of the body Frank!! Knee from the clinch just misses the face of Kaufman. Coenen scores to the body with a knee. Kaufman working knees to the legs now, but Stell separates them once again. He seems to be responding to the boos. Kaufman coming forward now, but Coenen is keeping her distance to her advantage, and is not taking much damage. To the clinch, and Coenen gets a hip toss, but ends up on her back. Kaufman now on top and landing punches. Coenen goes for an arm bar, but Kaufman just picks her up and tosses her at the bell. Pro MMA now scores Round 2, 10-9 for Coenen.

Round 3 – Double jab now from Kaufman. Coenen gets another take down, but gets reversed again. Coenen working a very high guard. Kaufman has to be careful here. Coenen goes for another arm, but Kaufman is just so damn strong. Kaufman still on top, and she puts Coenen against the cage. Kaufman working the body. Hammerfists from Kaufman. Coenen staying busy from her back but she’s getting beat up now. Coenen goes for an arm and locks it up. Oh shit, it may be over and it is!! Coenen just took the belt by submitting Kaufman. Some confusion. The replay shows what happened. Kaufman tapped, the ref stepped in, but Coenen kept torquing on the arm anyway.

Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante vs. Josh Thomson

Round 1 – Big John reffing this one. Thomson has a huge smile on his face, must be from watching JZ dance to the cage. JZ stalking early, closes the distance and Thomson scores with a knee. Kick upstairs for Josh, blocked by JZ. Big leg kick from JZ, then he closes and clinches. JZ leaning on Josh against the cage, then gets a body lock and works for a take down, but Josh defends well. Josh pushes JZ off, then lands a kick. Jab from JZ, but he doesn’t follow up with anything else. Big overhand left from JZ, but Josh ducks and circles away. Josh misses with a kick, then JZ staggers Thomson with a right hand, then grabs the neck of Thomson. JZ is squeezing hard, and has Thomson locked up in his guard going for the guillotine. I can’t believe he hasn’t tapped to this! Thomson still alive in there. Josh works out and the crowd is responding. JZ’s arms have to be gassed. Thomson is fired up! He postures and lands some big strikes. JZ is trying to control his posture, but Thomson is staying busy. JZ goes to the rubber guard and is working a very high guard. Thomson postures and stands, looking to pass, but gets caught in the half guard of JZ. Thomson locks up an arm, for an arm triangle and it is anaconda tight baby! Will he survive???? He does! Off to round 2. Close round. Pro MMA now scores Round 1 for Cavalcante, 10-9.

Round 2 – Thomson is ready to go now. He’s bouncing in his corner coming out for Round 2. JZ with the jab to start. Josh flashes a right hand, then steps away. JZ is stalking again, and clinches, then puts Josh on the cage. Double unders for JZ. Josh to the body with the knee. Thomson reverses and puts JZ’s back against the cage. Knees to the thigh by Josh. Thomson could really use a take down right here. JZ, circles and presses Thomson on the cage. JZ goes for a throw but Thomson defends, then fights for under hooks. Josh scores with a knee to the body. Thomson gets the body lock and works JZ to the ground. JZ is turtled up and Josh is looking to get a hook in. He’s got one in, but JZ is defending putting his other hip on the mat to prevent the second hook from getting in. Thomson is still fighting to get the back, then throws some punches to soften him up. JZ is controlling the arms of Thomson from the bottom. Josh going for the arm triangle again, and JZ rolls. Josh now in the half guard of JZ with :35 seconds to go in the round. Melendez and Miletich together on the play by play is beautiful. Thomson finishes the round on top. Pro MMA now scores Round 2, 10-9 for Thomson.

Round 3 – Thomson misses with the kick to the head, then shoots but gets stuffed. JZ coming forward, throws a right hand, then a left knee that just misses the face of Thomson. Back to the clinch again. Josh has JZ pressed against the cage, gets a body lock and nearly gets the take down but JZ defends, then JZ gets a take down of his own. A scramble ensues, and JZ ends up in full mount. This just may decide the fight. Thomson bucks, and tries to turn his hips but JZ maintains top control with 3 minutes to go. JZ not doing much from the top. Thomson works the rubber guard now. Josh is fired up, looking at the camera and smiling while he fist pumps. He has to get off of his back. Josh scrambles, creates space, and gets to his feet. Thomson shoots but gets stuffed. JZ lands a right hand, then stands over Thomson and lands some big shots. Not a lot of damage, but in the judges eyes, JZ is definitely winning the final round. JZ not doing much now in the full guard of Thomson. Lay and Pray from JZ gets some boos from the crowd. Thomson is trying desperately to get to his feet. Thomson briefly locks up a guillotine. Big John is calling for action but there is only 25 seconds to go. Looks like JZ is going to finish on top. Big up kicks from Thomson but JZ is on top at the end of the round. Pro MMA now scores Round 3 for Cavalcante, 10-9, and the fight overall to JZ Cavalcante, 29-28.

Nick Diaz vs. KJ Noons

Round 1 – Diaz feeling out Noons by pawing out with his left hand. Big left hand misses by Noons. Inside leg kick from Noons. Slappping right hand from Diaz. Noons with 2 left hands to the body. Diaz with a nice stiff jab. Noons comes back with a body shot. Diaz with a big lead left hand. Diaz counters with a glancing right hook that drops Noons! Diaz in side control. Uh OOOOhhhhh. Diaz in side mount with 3 minutes to go. Could be deep trouble for Noons. Diaz with shoulder pressure, but he’s being very patient. Diaz looking to advance his position. Noons kicks off, creates space and is back to his feet. Diaz has his hands down by his waist now. He seems oblivious to any threat from Noons. Diaz is getting busier now, but Noons is moving his head well. Big jab from Diaz. Noons ducks in and lands a nice right hand. 4 punch combo from Diaz. Noons settling in now. He lands a big snapping jab to the jaw of Diaz. Diaz comes back with a double jab after Noons goes to the body. Big left hand from Diaz, and Noons is loading up with the right hand, throwing it all the way from his hips. Diaz is talking trash at the bell. Pro MMA now scores Round 1 for Diaz 10-9.

Round 2 – Noons comign forward to start the round. Diaz is feinting the right hand. Diaz with a telegraphed kick to the head, times 3. Noons steps in with a body shot, then a big left hook. Diaz is bleeding now. Noons talking trash now. This is great! Noons gets caught with a big jab, then right hand. Good work by Diaz. Diaz shoots from 8 feet out. Noons steps away easily. Noons lands a big left hook again. Diaz is bleeding badly now. Snapping jab from Diaz. Left hook to the body from Noons. 3 body punches from Noons. Noons is really getting his rhythm now. Diaz comes back with his jab. He’s scoring with it but Noons is putting together the better combos in this round. Body kick by Diaz, and Noons answers with a kick to the leg. Left hook scores by Diaz and now Noons is bleeding form the nose. Flying knee by Noons. Noons continues to the body after Diaz scores with his jab. Triple, slapping jab by Diaz. Diaz with a right hand to the body, then misses with the left hook. Noons steps in and lands a big right hook. Diaz scores witha looping right hand. Noons, with his hair flying, lands an uppercut. Diaz with back-to-back kicks. Noons lands a huge knee to the mid section of Diaz. Big exchange by both guys. Noons is throwing big shots in the pocket. Diaz needs to get out of a boxing match with Noons, and get this to the ground if he wants to keep his title. Pro MMA now scores Round 2 for Noons, 10-9.

Round 3 – Noons looks super confidant now. Diaz immediately shoots for the ankles of Noons. Noons easily avoids the take down. Both guys land jabs. Nice straight right hand by Diaz. Diaz to the body, Noons comes back with a left hand to the liver. Right hand, left hook to the body of Noons. Diaz with a nice left hand. Diaz with a double jab. Noons misses with a looping left hand, then it’s back to business to the body. Diaz with a double jab, then a big right hand. Noons is missing with a lot of his power shots, but is landing to the body. Diaz is starting to turn it around now. Leg kick by Diaz. Noons comes back with a leg kick. If Noons is tired, he’s in trouble because Diaz won’t get tired and this one is going 5. Overhand right from Diaz, and he’s smiling and talking again. Nice jab from Diaz. Diaz is finding his rhythm again. Noons is slowing down. Big jab from Diaz. Diaz to the head with the kick, then lands a right hand. Noons is breathing hard with his mouth wide open now. Another jab from Diaz now, then a kick to the body. Noons with a stiff jab. Diaz is coming forward, and lands with a left to the body. 30 seconds to go. Diaz with a 4 punch combo. Diaz with short right hands after a brief clinch. Pro MMA now scores Round 3 for Diaz, 10-9.

Round 4 – Championship rounds now. Diaz looks fresher. Kick by Noons, then Diaz comes back with a kick, then a right hand to the body. Big right hand to the body by Diaz. Stiff jab from Diaz. Noons just misses with a big left upper cut. Diaz is really effective with his straight jab now. Diaz to the body again. Noons has really slowed down. Noons scores with a short right hand, then comes forward with a right upper cut. Diaz with a double jab, but doesn’t follow up in the pocket. Noons scores to the body, then lands an inside leg kick. Diaz counters with the jab, then the right hand again. Diaz goes unorthodox and lands some nice left hands. Both guys landing big exchanges. Big exchanges from both guys, they are toe to toe! Very close rounds. Noons opens up and lands a big left hook. Noons is pouring it on now. Diaz lands a huge left hand that backs up Noons after a quick clinch. Diaz comes forward with a right hand, then misses to the head with a kick. Diaz pitter pattering with multiple strikes with 1 seconds to go. Very close round. Pro MMA now scores Round 4 for Diaz, 10-9.

Round 5 – body shot by Noons, then a clipping left hand. Diaz shoots and nearly gets a take down but Noons scrambles out. Diaz is working his jab again, tripling up with it. Noons reaching but is just outside of range. Double jab from Noons misses but he scores to the body. Thai clinch from Diaz, and he lands 5 or 6 short right hands behind the ear of Noons. Diaz with another double jab, but it’s more for range than it is for anything else. Diaz switches stances again. Noons is throwing wild punches now. Diaz clinches and wants a take down but doesn’t get it. 2:30 to go, who is it going to be. Diaz still in the southpaw stance as they work to the center of the cage. Noons is missing with a lot of his punches now, but then he lands a big right hand to the jaw of Diaz. Spinning back kick from Diaz, then he lands a nice 1-2 combo. Noons counters with a flush right hand. A minute to go in this one. Diaz back to his traditional stance, clinches, and throws a flurry of very short right hands again. 30 seconds to go. Noons just misses with a big right uppercut. Diaz goes unorthodox again with 20 seconds to go. diaz to the clinch, lands a short knee. The bell sounds and both guys raise their hands! Pro MMA now scores Round 5 for Noons, but the fight overall to Diaz 48-47.
