Vitor Belfort (19-8) was recently pulled from the UFC 122 main event against Yushin Okami, but UFC President Dana White confirmed via Twitter that Belfort was not removed due to an injury and he will instead face Anderson Silva for the UFC title. MMAJunkie.com hinted at the possible matchup earlier in the day.

News surfaced last night that Nate Marquardt would replace Belfort against Okami at UFC 122 on Nov. 13 in Germany. Chael Sonnen was in line for a rematch but with a possible steroid suspension looming, the UFC decided to look for a new challenger for Silva.

The MMAJunkie report says that a Belfort vs. Silva match could take place at UFC 125 on Jan. 1 in Las Vegas.

Belfort had been scheduled to face Silva before, but an injury forced him out of the fight and gave Sonnen his opportunity.
