“It’s a different ball game, but not much different. Only thing is I got caught slippin. I should’ve bobbed and weaved instead of just weaved. I made a mistake. I paid for it. But I’ll be back, I ain’t worried about it. I don’t cry over spilled milk.”
Those were the words of a dejected James “Lights Out” Toney just moments after losing his first professional mixed martial arts match against UFC Hall of Famer Randy “The Natural” Couture at UFC 118 in Boston, Mass., on Aug. 28.
Although UFC President Dana White has stated that Toney will not be fighting any more for the promotion, Toney says he still wants to compete in MMA. In fact, he did not know White had made those comments when this interview took place. At one point Toney says he would talk to Dana to see what might be next, but if White sticks to his guns, Toney will either have to find a smaller MMA promotion to fight for or stick to boxing.
We’ve seen a lot of Toney over the past few months, always cocky, but this is a whole different person here. I believe he honestly thought he was going to win this fight. He really thought he had what it took to beat Randy Couture. Some people may call it delusional or crazy, but according to Toney, his balls are the size of walnuts (I hope he means fresh walnuts with the hull on them, otherwise, walnuts ready to eat aren’t very big to be honest).
“That’s what scared people do”??? Apparently, that’s what winners do…
I would rather be a “scared” winner, then an arrogant loser any day!!!
Could that interviewer have kissed Toney’s ass any more? You can tell by his comments and questions, he knows very little about MMA.
I’ll agree that guy was definitely working the friend angle with Toney.
