In preparation of this weekend’s UFC 113 rematch between UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, I thought I would have the two fighters go at it a few days early in the new “UFC Undisputed 2010” video game demo now available on XBOX Live and in the Playstation Store.

What you will see here is actual game play footage from the PS3 version of the game. I’m controlling Shogun and the computer is Machida. Other fighters available in the demo include Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and “Sugar” Rashad Evans.

The feel seems very close to the first game. They did a good job getting the fighting style for each fighter correct, at least in the demo. It should be fun to be able to play all the new characters in the full version.

Controlling the ground game is still a mystery to me. In the 2009 version I had learned how to pull off submissions at one time but it was never a smooth flowing feeling. Most of the time I just felt I got lucky when I pulled it off.

Supposedly you are able to use the cage in the new version. I wanted to try and put my back against it to help me get up off the ground but the one time I tried it I wasn’t sure what to do, so I just kind of kept scooting around on my back. Keep in mind, the demo does not come with instructions, so trying to figure out any new moves is just a shot in the dark.

Basically, what you will see in this fight is pure stand up with a couple of takedown attempts. I spent probably  an hour playing the four different demo fighters, checking out their different styles. The worst was Rashad. He felt the most unnatural and least effective of the four.

Rampage had great punching power but couldn’t throw a high kick to save his life. Machida was fun, using his karate style striking, and Shogun was fun as you will see. So, check out this fight and see if you think the real fight may look something like this. It could happen.

  1. Thanks for the post. Now that I know the outcome of the fight, I’m gonna bet my house on Rua to win by KO via uppercut in Rd 2. Thanks!

  2. Yeah, the kicks were sweet. I did notice Rua’s low kicks and body kicks as in the real fight. I also liked the first left hook knock down of Machida. I’ve been playing my Undisputed game last few days. I’m excited for the new one but with all the PPV buys I’m kinda broke.
