NEWARK, N.J. – After his complete domination of Dan Hardy Saturday night in Newark, N.J., UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre is in need of a new challenger.

Jon Fitch, who won a unanimous decision over Ben Saunders, said at the UFC 111 post-fight press conference that he had won four fights in a row since he last fought St. Pierre and he would like a title shot.

Dana White said that Fitch was definitely in the mix, and maybe he and Josh Koscheck could fight each other for the number one contender spot.

Fitch was then asked if he would be open to fighting his teammate Koscheck for a shot at St. Pierre.

Fitch said, “No.”

“I guess he doesn’t want a title shot that bad then,” replied White.

“If that fight had to happen, it would happen inside our gym with the doors closed,” said Fitch.

“That would make a lot of money,” White fired back with a sarcastic grin.

White has never been a fan of teammates refusing to fight one another. This issue has not come up for awhile, but now that St. Pierre is back to recycling his opponents, push may come to shove between the UFC and American Kickboxing Academy, the gym Fitch and Koscheck call home.

The UFC 111 post-fight press conference is currently available for viewing in our UFC Room.

  1. I love how people complain about “boring” fights and yet they want the UFC to force teammates to fight each other. Do you think a fight between two guys who have trained together for multiple years to be a barn burner? They don’t want to fight, and they know each others’ games. Why would anyone want to watch a fight like that?
