BROOMFIELD, Colo. – Brandon “The Truth” Vera (11-5) was defeated by Jon “Bones” Jones (10-1) Sunday night in the main event at “UFC on Versus 1”, which took place at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colo. and aired live on Versus.

Jones stopped Vera in the first round with vicious elbow shots while inside his guard. Sources close to the situation have reported to ProMMAnow.com that Vera”s cheekbone was broken in three different locations, and he was unable to fly home to California Sunday night.

It was Vera’s second loss in a row after losing to Randy Couture back in November.

Ironically, it was elbow strikes which cost Jones his only loss in his last fight, against Matt Hamill. He was disqualified for using elbow strikes in a “12-to-6” motion, which is illegal, and rendering Hamill unable to continue.

Apparently, Jones has been practicing on the proper way to throw those elbows, because this time they were legal and still did enough damage to stop the fight.
