Andre Arlovski’s camp has announced that the former UFC heavyweight champion will take part in an exhibition boxing match against Fres Oquendo. The bout will take place on Feb. 27 at the Fountainbleau Miami Beach Hotel and Resort in Miami. Arlovski has made his desire to participate in boxing very clear over the last few years and perhaps this is the start. However, Oquendo has a real fight scheduled for Feb. 20, and there are a few videos of the two sparring on youtube.

Even though fans should expect a glorified sparring session like the ones Mike Tyson took part in while wearing a t-shirt, ProMMANow.com will fill you in on Oquendo.

Oquendo is basically a mid-level heavyweight boxer with a record of 31-5 with 20 knockouts. He has faced some recognizable names like Evander Holyfield, John Ruiz and Chris Byrd, but he has lost to them all. His most impressive performance came in 2008 against Dana White’s own personal stalker James Toney. The two fought to a 12-round decision. Although Toney got the nod from the judges many people in the media felt Oquendo deserved the win. In 2009 Oquendo went 2-0 with the wins coming against Mark Brown (15-1) and Bruce Seldon (40-7)

  1. Well, at least he seems chummy with the guys so he won’t get KTFO. By the way, I wonder if Arlovski and Sylvia would have taken less money to stay with the UFC if they could turn back time?
