“Art of War 15: Ueyama vs. Aohailin” took place Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at the National Olympic Sports Center in Beijing, China. The main event saw undefeated submission expert Ao Hai Lin (6-0) continue his win streak by out-pointing the much more experienced Ryuki Ueyama (10-13-4), and taking home a tough fought unanimous decision victory. It was the first time in Ao Hai Lin’s professional career that anyone had ever taken him the distance, or even past the first round for that matter.
“Art of War 15” had a significance for the promotion beyond the fights themselves. For the first time, the Chinese MMA organization implemented a new judging system that would prevent fights that go the distance from automatically being ruled a draw. Art of War’s Chief U.S. Representative, Al Yu, spoke to ProMMA.info about the new system:
Art of War have implemented judges/judging criteria starting with this event. In the past, any decision was ruled automatically as a technical draw. We realized that as the talent increases, so will the competitive fights; not all fights will end with a finish. Art of War 14 was a great event but it had more draws than expected. We listened to the fans and we want to put on the best and most entertaining fights today. This is a step in the right direction and the fans can expect big things from Art of War FC in 2010.
Because the sport of MMA is relatively so young, it is the commissions and promotions’ around the world ability to change and adapt that will ensure the globalization of mixed martial arts continues. Art of War Fighting Championship held its first event in November 2005 in Beijing and is the oldest professional MMA promotion in the People’s Republic of China.
