KANSAS CITY, KAN. – Strikeforce returns to action with Strikeforce – Challengers Series 5 Friday night, Nov. 20, 2009, at Kansas City Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan. The main event features a welterweight bout between undefeated submission phenom Tyron Woodley (5-0) taking on fast-rising Rudy Bears (10-3), who is on a six-fight win-streak.

Woodley has submitted all five of the opponents he has faced. Woodley’s first pro fight was in 2006, and he submitted Alex Carter via rear-naked choke. Woodley had no professional MMA bouts from 2007-2008, but he returned to competition this year with a bang.

Woodley has already fought four times this year, and submitted every one of his opponents (one was due to strikes). Four of his five victories have come in the first round, and his most recent victory, over Zach Light at Strikeforce – Challengers 3, came via armbar in the second round.

As good as Woodley is, he will have his hands full with Rudy Bears. Like Woodley, Bears has also been busy this year, already knocking out two opponents, and winning a unanimous decision over the other. And last year, Bears fought eight times, going 6-2.

In the co-main event Kerry Vera, who is the wife of UFC light heavyweight fighter Brandon Vera, will take on Kim Couture, who is the ex-wife of UFC legend Randy Couture. Coincidentally, Kerry and Kim’s fight is taking place just six days after Randy defeated Brandon at UFC 105 in Manchester, England. Kerry will certainly be looking for revenge.

One fight MMA fans will be watching intently is Kevin Casey vs. Chad Vance. Casey is coming into this fight with a ton of hype behind him, albeit most of that hype is coming from himself and his celebrity manager Spencer Pratt, through a Youtube rap video where he issues a warning to all his opponents, and another strange video that shows he and his crew working out and posing with assault rifles, with the obvious intention of showing the world he is a hard core gangster (white bred Beverly Hills celebrity manager in cowboy hat not withstanding).

Unfortunately, Casey’s opponent Chad Vance has practically no hype behind him, except he is the guy fighting Kevin Casey. The sad part is, Casey is matched up with a fighter he will probably beat, which will further perpetuate the “King Casey” hype machine, and undoubtedly subject the world to more viral video of Casey rapping with his rich white sugar daddy wearing cowboy hats.

And believe it or not, Nick Nolte will be fighting on this card! It’s true. OK, it’s not THAT Nick Nolte, but it is Nick Nolte. The main card will air live on Showtime Friday night beginning at 10 p.m. CT. We invite you to join us here at ProMMA.info as we provide live results and play-by-play commentary of the event.
