Former UFC welterweight champ Matt Hughes won't be retiring anytime soon.

Just when you may have been thinking Matt Hughes (43-7) was about to hang up the gloves for good, the former nine-time UFC Welterweight Champion revealed he signed a new multi-fight deal last week with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

In a statement on his website (www.matt-hughes.com) he writes:

Last week I went out to Vegas and I signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC, which is much like my last contract. I also brought up the fact that I wanted to do a hunting show and they thought that would be a good thing. They still have to find out who, where and when my next fight will be and I will try to post that info ASAP. Nothing is decided yet, so anything you might be reading on the Internet right now is just rumors and speculation. However, one name the UFC did bring up is a person I’ve never fought before.

The Illinois native who is known as the most dominant champion in UFC history is 3-3 in his last six bouts. His most recent fight was a unanimous decision win over Matt Serra at UFC 98 back in May.

As Hughes stated, his next opponent is yet to be determined but it could possibly be a welterweight he has never fought before. There are plenty of fighters who fit that category in the UFC, but the possibilities narrow when you think of big name welterweights he has not faced.
