Did you wonder what happened to “Bellator VIII?”

If you wondered why you have not heard anything about “Bellator VIII,” well it is because there is not an actual event named “Bellator VIII.” Instead, “Bellator VIII: The Road to the Championship” will be a television program airing on ESPN Deportes on Saturday May 23, 2009.

The show will highlight the remaining tournament fighters and their journey to the Bellator Featherweight, Lightweight, Welterweight and Middleweight world championship fights. It will set the stage for the lone remaining semi-final bouts and all three world championship matchups and will showcase the spectacular action that led to the final showdowns of Bellator’s first tournament season.

PRO MMA exclusive interview with King of the Cage heavyweight Liron Wilson

Heavyweight MMA fighter Liron Wilson was a collegiate track and football standout. At six-foot-four-inches and 235-pounds, Liron is a tall athletic heavyweight. He turned professional in 2007 and is a vetaran of the Gladiator Challenge and War Gods promotions. Coming off a loss last November and then being sidelined with a leg injury, Liron got the call a little over a week ago for his next fight.

All healed up and ready to go, Liron Wilson will be fighting this Saturday May 23rd in Cortez, Colorado at “King of the Cage: El Lobo” at the Ute Mountain Casino. PRO MMA (promma.info) had the privilege of speaking to the up-and-coming heavyweight about getting back in the cage after the layoff and making the cut for The Ultimate Fighter season 10 tryouts. 

Liron also shares some challenges as well as advice for young fighters who are thinking of choosing professional MMA as a career path. He talks about the importance of having a good manager or agent and what is necessary for that relationship to flourish.

See “The Axe Murderer” fight a heavyweight for free

Are you a Wanderlei Silva fan? Would you like to see “The Axe Murderer” fight in person, for free? Well, you are in luck! In a recent video blog, Wanderlei announced that he will be holding a three round hard sparring event at his Las Vegas gym, free and open to the public, on Thursday May 21st, at 8 pm.

Silva explains that he will be sparring against a professional, heavyweight opponent who is currently training for an upcoming fight for Strikeforce. Without revealing the name of his sparring partner, Wanderlei does say that the opponent has a record of 23-6 and has a strong wrestling base. He will outweigh Silva by 40lbs and has a two inch height advantage.

Silva goes on to say, “Every week I am going to train with the same guy three rounds, all serious, no stop, same as a fight, for to test. This guy is 240lbs, professional, he is going to fight in the next few months.”
