Kim Couture set to fight Miesha Tate at ShoMMA: Strikeforce Challengers May 15th

PRO MMA ( has learned from multiple sources that Kim “Sugar Free” Couture (1-1) has accepted a fight with Miesha “Takedown” Tate (6-1) as part of Showtime’s “ShoMMA: Strikeforce Challengers”, which will take place on May 15th in Fresno, California.

Couture, the wife of UFC legend Randy Couture, lost her very first MMA bout to Kim Rose on June 20th of last year by unanimous decision. Even in her defeat she gained a lot of respect and showed her toughness by finishing the fight with a broken jaw she received early in round one.

She bounced back in her second pro bout with a TKO victory over an out-matched Lina Kvokov (0-2) this past November on the “Strikeforce: Destruction” card.

Miesha Tate has won five fights in a row, including winning the Freestyle Cage Fighting 135-pound women’s title over Liz Carriero on April 4th. Her only loss was to Kaitlin Young in just her second pro fight in November of 2007.

Tate’s nickname “Takedown” obviously comes from her background in wrestling as she was a standout member of her high school wrestling team.  Couture’s nickname, “Sugar Free”, comes from her personality of telling it like it is and not “sugar-coating” anything.

Also on the card is undefeated Billy Evangelista (9-0) vs. Mike Aina (11-6-1) in a lightweight battle.  No other matches have yet been confirmed.
