If Nick Diaz doesn’t make the 160 lb. weight limit for his fight Saturday night against, then there will be no fight according to his opponent, Thomas Denny. Denny was on the July 18 episode of Inside MMA and said if Diaz came in at 169 lbs. like he did in his last fight, then Denny would not compete at a catch weight. Denny went on to say, “That’s a whole new weight class…if I wanted to fight at 170, I would have stayed at 170.”

At Elite XC’s Return of the King on June 14, Nick Diaz was scheduled to fight Muhsin Corbbrey at 160 lbs. Diaz could not make the weight and they settled on a catch weight of 169 lbs. after Diaz forfeited to Corbbrey a portion of his purse. Diaz went on to win that fight and it’s anybody’s guess how much of a factor, if any, his extra weight played in that win.

Thomas Denny is coming off a DQ win against Sasiprapa Malaipet back in March after Denny received three vicious elbows to the illegal area in the back of the head. Those elbows hurt Denny to the point that he could not continue and thus the victory was given to him. Denny knows he’s the underdog coming into this fight with Diaz and he likes that he says. Denny also stated he wasn’t impressed with Diaz’s performance in his last fight and commented that Diaz landed numerous shots on Corbbrey, yet Corbbrey’s face looked unblemished after the fight.

Nick Diaz vs. Thomas “The Wildman” Denny has the potential to be fight of the night if both guys bring it. Both guys are very capable. Let’s just hope that Diaz makes his 160 lb. weight limit this time because if he doesn’t and Denny sticks to his guns, that could really hurt the card on a very important night for Elite XC. Check back with us soon to find out if Diaz makes weight!

  1. this could be a great fight. I hope Nick makes weight, because Denny is not playing around. He will walk if Nick comes in heavy. Good article.
