World Series of Fighting’s eighth event overall and first of 2014 took place Saturday night in Hollywood, Florida’s Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The card featured two title fights, in the Lightweight and the Women’s Strawweight (115 lbs) divisions, both of which saw a one-sided result. The card’s co-main event featured two former UFC fighters in Anthony Johnson vs. Mike Kyle, wherein Johnson continued his winning streak outside of the UFC with a decisive knockout victory.
WSOF 8 takes place this evening in Hollywood, Fla., and is headlined by Justin Gaethje vs. Rich Patishnock for the inaugural WSOF Lightweight Title. In the co-main event, Anthony Johnson takes on Mike Kyle in a highly-anticipated light heavyweight match that will likely end with someone unconscious. Also on the card is the world No. 1 ranked women’s strawweight, Jessica Aguilar, as she takes on Alida Gray for the inaugural WSOF Women’s Strawweight Title.
The headliner at World Series Of Fighting 8 is to be electric as undefeated Justin Gaethje takes on Rich Patishnock. Gaethje himself is assuring fans that they will deliver, going so far as to bet his life on it. World Series of Fighting has put together an incredible card to kickoff 2014 with WSOF 8 Gaethje vs Patishnock. This card features two title bouts, a light heavyweight slug-match and many more promising match-ups. One tilt scheduled for January 18th that is flying under the radar pits heavyweights Derrick Mehmen against Scott Barret in what should be a great battle.
With the first event of the year for World Series of Fighting right around the corner, the promotion held a conference call today that featured athletes from the upper half of the televised card. The WSOF 8 competitors on the line included Justin Gaethje, Rich Patishnock, Anthony Johnson, Mike Kyle, Jessica Aguilar and Alida Gray, along with WSOF President Ray Sefo and Executive VP Ali Abdel-Aziz.
Justin Gaethje (10-0) will face one of MMA’s top prospects in Rich Patishnock (6-1) for the World Series of Fighting’s inaugural lightweight title in the Jan. 18 event titled “World Series of Fighting 8: Gaethje vs. Patishnock,” which takes place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla.
