Bobby Lashley puts Cook to sleep at “MFC 21: Hard Knocks”

When PRO MMA (promma.info) spoke to Bobby Lashley last month he explained he was in no rush to get into the UFC or one of the big shows. He did not want to jump in there right away and have everyone questioning his legitimacy. Rather, he wanted to take his time and get some experience under his belt in the smaller shows. Frankly, that is a wise plan.

Last night former WWE superstar Bobby Lashley fought Mike Cook at Maximum Fighting Championship’s “MFC 21: Hard Knocks” at the River Cree Hotel and Casino just outside Alberta, Canada. Cook, a 234-pound heavyweight, has been fighting professionally since 2006 and came into the fight with a 6-3 record. Lashley, weighing in at 249-pounds, came into the fight at 2-0.

Mike Cook is not a top ten heavyweight by any stretch of the imagination. On the other hand, he is far from a scrub. He has fought in such organizations as Palace Fighting Championships, EliteXC, and Strikeforce. He was a decent well-rounded opponent that presented a legitimate threat to Lashley and the match would give Lashley some much-needed ring time.

Trigg hit with stick in MMA fight

by:  Jack Bratcher

Well, it finally happened.  After months of preparation and slowly moving from commentator to in-ring participant, Frank Trigg had his first official match within the TNA wrestling promotion.  Tonight’s match-up took place in Oshawa, Canada and aired live on TNA’s “No Surrender” pay per view.  It was billed as an MMA fight of three, five-minute rounds with victory only coming by submission or knockout.  Trigg’s opponent was “The Phenomenal” A.J. Styles, a TNA superstar that Trigg has had an ongoing feud with ever since Styles attacked him from behind in a parking lot, mistaking him for Kurt Angle.

Trigg comes walking down the runway carrying an American flag, wearing a big grin, and decked out in his traditional MMA shorts with sponsor patches.  Once Trigg climbs in the ring, somehow a microphone magically appears and as he begins his monologue it’s obvious his role is the heel.  “This country really does suck!” Trigg tells the Canadian crowd.  He goes on to call them hicks and dishes out a few more insults. Then Trigg makes sure everyone knows that in the MMA world he is paid to punish his opponents.  He says, “What I like to do is hurt alot of people and by the looks of all you hayseeds I’d like to hurt you too.”

Trigg set for first pro wrestling bout vs. A.J. Styles

I tuned into TNA last night just in time to catch our buddy Frank Trigg standing in the middle of the ring opposite A.J. Styles. Trigg looks completely natural in there talking smack to Styles. Supposedly they are going to have an MMA-type bout of three five-minute rounds at TNA’s “No Surrender” this Sunday, Sept.14 airing live on pay per view. From what I understand, you can only win by submission in this special rules match. Although Trigg has been appearing on TNA as commentator and advesary to Kurt Angle, this will be his first full-fledged match with the TNA professional wrestling promotion.
