Thirty-seven-year-old Canadian mixed martial arts striking coach Shawn Tompkins passed away Sunday morning. Exact details surrounding his passing have not yet been released but reports indicate he was in Canada at the time.

Former Olympian, Judo master Ferrid Kheder signs with Bellator

CHICAGO, Ill. (January 21, 2010) Bellator Fighting Championships put yet another piece in place for its second season today with the announcement that Judo master and former Olympian Ferrid “Hurricane” Kheder will compete in the promotion’s upcoming lightweight tournament.

Kheder, who placed seventh in the Judo competition at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, has quickly compiled a solid 16-5 MMA record since giving up Judo to fight full-time in the cage just three years ago. His transition to MMA was put into overdrive in 2008 when he began training under the famed Shawn Tompkins. Since the two teamed up, Kheder has won 11 of his 12 fights.

WEC 46 spotlight: Mark “The Machine” Hominick – ProMMA.info exclusive interview

“WEC 46: Varner vs. Henderson” takes place this Sunday night, Jan. 10, 2010, at the Arco Arena in Sacramento, Calif. Making his third WEC appearance, after nearly a year-and-a-half layoff, is 27-year-old Canadian fighter Mark “The Machine” Hominick (16-8). “The Machine” will be fighting Strikeforce veteran Bryan Caraway (14-3), who is making his WEC debut.

After a successful two-fight stint in the UFC, where he defeated Yves Edwards and Jorge Gurgel at lightweight, Mark Hominick decided to pack his bags and leave. To this day, he has to be one of the few fighters ever to willingly leave the UFC, undefeated inside the Octagon.

Junie Browning gets submission victory at MMA Big Show – has a special message for the ladies

ProMMA.info provided a live play by play of Saturday night’s “MMA Big Show: Onslaught” which took place in Florence, Ind., and was headlined by none other than The Ultimate Fighter veteran Junie “The Lunatik” Browning taking on Taekwondo black belt Scott Cornwell.

Despite his troubles outside the cage, Browning proved he still had skills that surpass your average Taekwondo black belt by dropping Cornwell to the mat with his very first punch. Junie quickly pounced on his opponent, and at one point tried to put him in a gogoplata. He actually got pretty close, but ended up settling for a trusty triangle submission.

Browning controlled the entire 3:13 fight and was never in any danger. Following the bout, the microphone was handed to Cornwell who was apologetic and genuinely displeased with his performance. The crowd applauded Cornwell’s effort, in what was only his second professional bout.

MMA Big Show unleashes UFC veteran Junie Browning at “Onslaught” this Saturday, Nov. 28

MMA Big Show presents “ONSLAUGHT” this Saturday, Nov. 28, live from the Belterra Casino in Belterra, Ind. The event will feature a main event of former UFC and TUF competitor Junie Browning (3-1) clashing with local up-and-comer Scott Cornwell (1-0). The co-main event will showcase ex-training partner of Rich Franklin and former MMA Big Show Middleweight Champion Mojo Horne (6-2) in a battle with Kevin Barkdull (3-1).

Tickets for the event are priced at $25, $40, $45, and $75, and are available through Ticketmaster, as well as www.mmabigshow.com (ages 21 and over only). If you can not make “ONSLAUGHT” in person, you can catch the live stream online at GoFightLive.com. Check out this “ONSLAUGHT” promotional video.

Junie Browning trains with TapouT Training Center coach Shawn Tompkins, and was a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter reality show. In his elimination bout, he defeated Jose Aguilar by TKO, as Aguilar was not able to answer the bell for the 2nd round.
