Tavares claims ‘false positive’ on failed drug test

UFC officials confirmed earlier this week that Brazilian lightweight Thiago Tavares (17-5-1) failed his UFC on FX 7 post-fight drug test following a first round KO loss against Khabib Nurmagomedov on Jan. 19 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Tavares tested positive for the anabolic steroid Drostanolone and has been suspended for nine months. Tavares released a statement today regarding the failed drug test. Read More »

UFC President Dana White recently told the LA times that UFC will begin to do their own drug testing for performance enhancing drugs (PED's). The need for extra testing of UFC athletes has been continually in the news after Alistair Overeem’s removal from UFC 146 after a high testosterone to epitestosterone ratio showed up from a random drug test.
