Despite FEG’s push, still low ratings for Dynamite!!

The popularity of MMA in Japan continues to decline. The sport seemed on top of the world in Japan during the days of PRIDE. Even though there are many similarities between today’s top Japanese MMA organizations and PRIDE, there is something amiss.

This fact was shown no more clearly than it was on what should have been MMA’s biggest night of the year in Japan, the New Year’s Eve Dynamite!! event.

Here is a report on the television ratings for this year’s Dynamite!! card.  Here are the numbers broken down into three parts:

Mirko “CroCop” Filipovic out for six months

Mirko ‘CroCop’ Flipovic ended 2008 on a relative high note by defeating the Korean ‘Techno Giant,’ Hong Man Choi at the K-1 Dynamite!! New Year’s Eve extravaganza in Saitama, Japan.

‘CroCop’ won the fight with chopping leg kicks; the last collapsing the massive Korean’s leg causing him to fall to the ground.

As many fans saw, Mirko entered the ring with his classic attire of wrestling shoes but also both knees wrapped in braces. The fight itself was short of any major fireworks and we may now know why.

Josh Neer arrested in Des Moines, Iowa

UFC lightweight, Josh “The Dentist” Neer rang in the new year by celebrating in a Polk County jail cell. Neer was arrested early this morning in Des Moines, Iowa on charges of operating a vehicle while Intoxicated, eluding police, hit and run and other traffic violations.

“The Dentist” was released at 8:26 central time after two separate bonds of $2,000 and $5,000 for OWI and eluding police.

The incident began after Neer allegedly rear ended a car stopped at a red light. The car, after being hit by Neer, struck a police car that had been stopped ahead of it. The Miletich product then drove out into on coming traffic and the chase was on from there.

Badr Hari received payback for illegally kicking his last opponent in the head after the ref had stopped the action by receiving a first round knockout from Alistair Overeem. Bob Sapp even defeated a cartoon. Here are the full results:
