Letter from MMA Big Show promoter Jason Appleton regarding Gary Goodridge

MMA Big Show’s next event, “New Dawn,” is scheduled to take place this Saturday in Indiana. In a now well-known and much-publicized move, “New Dawn” headliner Gary “Big Daddy” Goodridge decided to take a last-minute fight in Japan against StrikeForce Light Heavyweight Champion Gegard Mousasi on New Year’s Eve at the “Dynamite!!” show. As a result of his TKO loss, the Indiana State Athletic Commission has decided not to license Goodridge. As of this past Monday, it was understood that Goodridge would still be allowed to fight. However, that has obviously changed.

Furthermore, due to the actions of the understaffed Commission, MMA Big Show Owner/Promoter Jason Appleton has made the difficult decision to pull the professional bouts off the card. “New Dawn” will continue with a full amateur card, and discounts for Feb 20th will be awarded to ticket-holders. Below is a letter from Appleton:

Junie Browning gets submission victory at MMA Big Show – has a special message for the ladies

Junie still the bad boy.
Junie still the bad boy.

ProMMA.info provided a live play by play of Saturday night’s “MMA Big Show: Onslaught” which took place in Florence, Ind., and was headlined by none other than The Ultimate Fighter veteran Junie “The Lunatik” Browning taking on Taekwondo black belt Scott Cornwell.

Despite his troubles outside the cage, Browning proved he still had skills that surpass your average Taekwondo black belt by dropping Cornwell to the mat with his very first punch. Junie quickly pounced on his opponent, and at one point tried to put him in a gogoplata. He actually got pretty close, but ended up settling for a trusty triangle submission.

Browning controlled the entire 3:13 fight and was never in any danger. Following the bout, the microphone was handed to Cornwell who was apologetic and genuinely displeased with his performance. The crowd applauded Cornwell’s effort, in what was only his second professional bout.

Junie Browning over weight at MMA Big Show – pays $100 to keep the pound

Apparently, Junie “The Lunatik” Browning had some trouble making weight last night for his scheduled 155 lbs. match-up against Scott Cornwell at “MMA Big Show: Onslaught,” taking place tonight at Belterra Casino in Florence, Ind.

A report on MMA Big Show’s blog indicates Junie showed up a half hour late to weigh-ins with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. Upon stepping on the scale, he weighed in at one pound over. His opponent, Cornwell, obviously gifted with an entrepreneurial spirit, offered to let Junie keep the extra pound in exchange for $100 of his purse. Junie happily obliged.

In a recent interview, Cornwell said he believed Junie made a name for himself “not from fighting, but from other things he was doing on The Ultimate Fighter.” Regardless of that, he feels a win over Junie will benefit his career, because comparatively, he does have a “big name.”
