Mann Talk – The Smashed Machine

If you are one of the people filling my email and facebook inboxes with fanatical Mark Kerr love, please stop. Apparently, my comments in the last Weekend Picks article about “The Smashing Machine” have lit the fuse of some of PRO MMA’s more incendiary readers.

I did mock those who claimed the main event of M-1 Breakthrough was a “trap fight” for Muhammed Lawal. I also alluded to the fact that Mark Kerr is not and never was a great heavyweight. Apparently this view is so outlandish and controversial that one fine gentleman found it necessary to dub me a “Brock Lesnar Noob.” I can only assume this is worse than your everyday “TUF Noob.”

King Mo vs. Mark Kerr fight video

King Mo took on Mark Kerr at M-1 Global’s “Breakthrough” event in Kansas City on Friday. Mo was the heavy favorite. Even so, few people probably expected the fight to end so quickly and brutally. Pay attention to Kerr’s mouthpiece during the replay. Please like & share:

Kansas City, Kansas — Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal showed stateside fans exactly what all of the hype surrounding him was all about as he made surprisingly short work of UFC veteran Mark Kerr in the main attraction of “HDNET FIGHTS PRESENTS M-1 BREAKTHROUGH”, which aired live on in the United States on HDNet and around the world via Internet PPV on www.M-1Global.com.

While many in attendance were aware of the fact that Kerr was coming into the fight as a heavy underdog, having taken the fight on just two weeks notice, few expected for the contest to end as suddenly, and as violently as it did.

Intense Amoussou / Doyle staredown highlights “HDNet Fights Presents M-1 Breakthrough” weigh-ins

Kansas City, Missouri – Considered by many pundits to be nothing more than an opponent for Karl “Psycho” Amoussou, John “The Iron Bull” Doyle sent a message Thursday afternoon during weigh-ins for “HDNET FIGHTS PRESENTS M-1 BREAKTHROUGH” that he did not venture to Kansas City to lose.

Amoussou vs. Doyle will be just one of seven total bouts to be featured during Friday’s HDNet telecast (10 p.m. ET) that will emanate from the historic Memorial Hall in Kansas City (tickets still available at Ticketmaster.com).

After weighing in, both Doyle and Amoussou were asked to partake in a pre-fight stare down intended as nothing more than a photo opportunity. However, what ensued was nearly a premature start to “Breakthrough,” with Amoussou and Doyle looking eager to lock horns a day early.

Final words with King Mo before his U.S. debut

Undefeated King Mo (4-0) is ready to make his U.S. debut on Friday, Aug. 28 against Mark Kerr.
Undefeated King Mo (4-0) is ready to make his U.S. debut on Friday, Aug. 28 against Mark Kerr.

PRO MMA (promma.info) spoke to King Mo Lawal late night Thursday, a few hours after weigh-ins. We wanted to check in with Mo in those final moments leading up to his U.S. debut to see how he’s feeling. “I’m ready,” he said.

Lawal of course will be taking on “The Smashing Machine” Mark Kerr at “HDNet Fights Presents Breakthrough” in Kansas City on Friday. Kerr is a fighter plenty past his prime but King Mo still thinks the fight should be entertaining. “It’s gonna be a better fight then people expect,” said Lawal.

Lawal weighed in at 219 lbs. a few hours ago, and Kerr tipped the scales at 263 lbs. Lawal thinks Kerr will be motivated not to want to lose to someone so much smaller. “I like Mark. He is big and looks in decent shape. And i dont think he wants to lose to a guy that weighs 220 with clothes on,” said Lawal.

Shooto Brazil, UFC 102 undercard, M-1 Global, and NAAFS picks

Mo Lawal faces Mark Kerr Friday night in Kansas City at M-1 Global Breakthrough.

Recap
I said last week that there would be no excuse for a bad week, and I came through in spades. I went 10-0 with 3 NCs, which brings my overall record to 24-5 (5 NC). For those keeping track at home that is an 83% picking rate. This week should be a little tougher as we take a look at cards from the UFC, M-1 Global, Shooto Brazil, and NAAFS. As always, don’t be afraid to voice your opinion in the comment section.

Shooto Brazil 13
Siyar Bahadurzada (14-4-1) vs. Leandro Silva (14-5)
In this contest for the Shooto 183-pound world title, Sengoku veteran Siya Bahadurzada will have a clear edge in the striking department. Expect him to be able to land shots from the outside, but Silva will be able to get takedowns and implement a top game. Silva will not have the submission game to finish the fight, but he should get enough takedowns to take the fight and the title.
Pick = Leandro Silva
