December 13, 2013 will mark the traveling promotions first trip to the Northern U.S., when XFC 27: Frozen Fury invades Muskegon, Michigan. The weather outside will be frigid, but the action inside the LC Walker Arena will be red hot when XFC President John Prisco and crew treats the crowd to 12 action packed fights.
The contracts are signed and the Featherweight Main Event is set for XFC 27 in Muskegon, MI Live on AXS TV Friday Dec. 13th. Former XFC Lightweight World Champion Junior Assuncao (14-5) returns to the cage ready to face off against newly signed 22 year old Daniel Swain (10-2). The two will collide in the headlining fight, just after the Featherweight Co-Main event which will decide the new champion in the division. As if any more incentive is needed, a new title holder being crowned just 1 fight prior their time to shine is sure to give the two fighters an even bigger reason to get the win that night.
Injuries happen. Promoters, fighters and fans have all learned to accept this reality. But, what many people seem to forget is, fighters are also human, and a simple illness can sneak up on you at the worst possible time. Unfortunately for Strawweight Brianna Van Buren, this is the situation she finds herself in, just one week out from her nationally televised fight with Heather Jo Clark. Van Buren’s camp contacted the XFC early Tuesday morning to inform them of Brianna’s Flu like symptoms, and by late afternoon it was confirmed; Van Buren would not be cleared to compete at Night of Champions III on Oct 18th.

In 2010, Assuncao, a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Black Rope in Capoeira, defeated John Mahlow to capture the XFC Lightweight Championship. Before being able to defend his new title, Assuncao was offered the opportunity to return to the UFC, so with the blessing of XFC President John Prisco, Junior was let out of his contract and he respectfully vacated his belt.
