Mizugaki returns to WEC Aug. 9 to face Curran

PRO MMA (promma.info) was notified by the World Extreme Cagefighting organization on Monday that Japanese MMA fighter Takeya Mizugaki (11-3-2) will return to the WEC cage on Aug. 9, 2009 to face veteran Jeff Curran (31-11-1) at “WEC: Torres vs. Bowles” at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.

Mizugaki, a Shooto veteran, proved his mettle to American MMA fans in April in his WEC debut when he took bantamweight champion and number one ranked bantamweight in the world Miguel Torres the five-round limit. Mizugaki lost the unanimous decision against Torres but let it be known a new bantamweight was in town to contend with.

MIzugaki commented on his anticipated return to the WEC through translator Shu Hirata, “I love the American fans and I want to come up with a good result this time. I want to show the fans here and in Japan that I belong in the WEC, where the world’s best competition in MMA is being held.”

Satoshii Ishii to attend UFC 92 at White’s invitation

We told you on Thursday of Olympic judo gold medalist, Satoshi Ishii’s single-minded desire to fight in the UFC.

UFC president, Dana White got word of the Judoka’s statement and reached out, inviting him to attend UFC 92 as a guest of the UFC.

According to a Nikkan Sports report, White issued a statement through the Japanese television station WOWOW applauding Ishii’s desire to fight in the UFC and that he believes Ishii has the potential to become a great mixed martial arts fighter.

Japanese Hip Hop – Memphis Style

It just so happens that Keddren Payne has a brother by the name of Quinton Jackson who is a Mixed Martial Arts fighter and used to fight in PRIDE Fighting Championship in Japan. Keddren used to accompany his brother on his trips to compete in PRIDE. Keddren felt such an affinity to Japan he found himself not wanting to leave.

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and his brother are from Memphis, Tennessee. Memphis is known for having great Blues music but it is also known for some down and gritty Dirty South Hip Hop.
