Arlovski signs with Golden Boy Promotions

Even though Andrei Arlovski got KTFO by Fedor Emelianenko at Affliction: Day of Reckoning, he has decided to transfer his talents into professional boxing. Who knows, maybe he will do better when all he has to concern himself with is his and his opponent’s punches. Also, the gloves have much more padding than MMA, which should at least partially help him from being as susceptible to knock-outs.

FightHype.com is reporting that Arlovski has signed a contract with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions and that his next fight will be inside a boxing ring. No date or opponent has yet been named. However, prior to his fight with Fedor, his trainer, Freddie Roach had made the statement that if Andrei won he would put him into a Heavyweight Title fight with Nikolai Valuev right away. That fight seems highly unlikely now considering Arlovski’s loss to Fedor.

PRO MMA exclusive interview: Stephen Quadros

Immediately following the end of Affliction: Day of Reckoning’s main event, PRO MMA (promma.info) caught up with Stephen Quadros. “The Fight Professor” is very familiar with the careers of most of the fighters on the ‘Day of Reckoning’ card and gave us his thoughts on a slew of topics.

Fedor Emelianenko, Vitor Belfort, Affliction and pound-for-pound rankings were all points that the former PRIDE FC play-by-play man and expert MMA analyst discussed.

PRO MMA: Stephen did this event live up to the hype?
QUADROS: I think so and I was a little worried about the ticket sales but it was like 12,000 strong. It was a really good crowd and the fights delivered. We got some unpredictable things like Matt Lindland going freeze-dried from a Belfort left hand that kind of shocked me. Emelianenko, doing what I call the ‘fly swat punch’ when Arlovski decided out of the blue to fly through the air Gilbert Yvel style and he got caught and went down. It was like a triple thud getting hit with the punch and hitting the floor directly after that. I thought it was a spectacular event, actually. Including the undercard fights. Some of these guys, that are unknown fighters on this under card, I was really surprised with.

Affliction vs. UFC: The Q-Tip Wars

“The UFC is the Q-Tip of MMA,” stated Tom Atencio on Wednesday’s Affliction: Day of Reckoning conference call. What he meant by that is when you think of cotton swabs to clean your ears, you think of the brand “Q-Tip.” When people (casual fans) think of MMA, they think of the UFC. Make no mistake, Affliction is out to topple the UFC as the number one MMA organization in the world.

From the tone of the Affliction Entertainment executives it has become very clear they are not going to be satisfied playing second fiddle. Michael Cohen, Executive Vice President and Special Counsel to Donald J. Trump said, “Affliction Entertainment will become the premiere company in mixed martial arts…Affliction will become the Q-Tip of MMA.”

There certainly are enough people and companies collaborating together to make some waves. Affliction Entertainment, M-1 Global, Donald Trump, and Golden Boy are all working together to put on the best MMA events possible. With Fedor leading the charge as the WAMMA Heavyweight Champion, Affliction is poised to do big things in 2009.
