Dos Santos looking to go 2-0 in the big show

After blasting through then top five heavyweight and heavily favored Fabricio Werdum at UFC 90 in October, Team Nogueria’s Junior Dos Santos (7-1) is looking to prove he isn’t a one hit wonder. The Brazilian heavyweight showed what kind of power and striking ability he brings into the Octagon with a devastating uppercut that laid out Werdum to the surprise of many including Fabricio himself. Now at UFC 95 this Saturday he will get the opportunity to show everyone that his win over Werdum wasn’t a fluke and that he is a fighter all other UFC heavyweights should keep an eye on.

His opponent who is making his UFC debut this Saturday is Stefan Struve (16-2) from Holland and a member of Team Schrijber. Having come from Holland, the first thought would be that Struve is all about kickboxing as Holland has produced some of the most successful K-1 fighters ever with Semmy Schilt, Remy Bonjasky and Ernest Hoost being just a few of the many great kickboxers the country has produced.

Werdum talks about controversial departure from UFC

It’s has been a troubling month for Fabricio Werdum. Rumors of his departure from the UFC began soon after his loss to Junior Dos Santos at UFC 90. While he first denied the speculation, he now can confirm his exit from the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

“When I first heard the rumors, I didn’t know anything. I had four more fights left with them on my contract, which ran to 2010. But they demanded to renegotiate my exiting contract by cutting my pay in half,” revealed the heavyweight. Adding also that his departure had nothing to do with the video game licensing dispute. “No that wasn’t an issue but it is not something that benefits the fighters.”

“It’s a pity. I would have liked to continue with the UFC but now we forge ahead,” said Fabricio who still has plans to move to the US.

Werdum denies departure from UFC

Fabrico Werdum’s loss to Junior dos Santos in UFC 90 seems to not only have affected his dream to fight for the UFC’s Heavyweight Title but has also ended his future in the organization.

Reports from the U.S. press state that the UFC wanted to renegotiate the contract of the Jiu-Jitsu and the ADCC champion, but the parties failed to reach an agreement and that negotiations ended with the UFC deciding to terminate Werdum’s contract.

“I’m surprised by the news. My sister is my manager and she’s the one that deals with the UFC and she always contacted me first before making any decision.

From what I know the UFC have not contacted her.

UFC and Fabricio Werdum part ways

by: Matt De La Rosa

Don’t expect Fabricio Werdum to become a heavyweight gatekeeper or stepping stone in the UFC. MMAWeekly has reported Werdum’s contract negotiations with the UFC have ceased.

After a knockout loss to Junior Dos Santos at UFC 90, any leverage Werdum had going into negotiations ended the minute he hit the canvas in Chicago.

With rising stars such as Cain Velasquez and Shane Carwin, Werdum’s 2-2 record in the Octagon made him an expendable commodity in the UFC’s eyes.

Had Werdum defeated the UFC newcomer Dos Santos two weeks ago, many believed he would get the first crack at the winner of the four man tournament between Couture / Lesnar and Nogueira / Mir for the heavyweight title.
