New sponsor for “UFC 97: Redemption”

After a short running partnership with FullTilt Poker, the UFC has officially banned FullTilt as a sponsor. The ban will include any and all mention of FullTilt, on signage as well as fighter apparel.

Many thought this was due to the long debated illegality of online poker and/or the competition online gambling sites pose to traditional “brick and mortar” Casinos. Neither seems to be the case for the recent ban, rather a less conscience laden reason is the cause.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship, as well as multiple fighters, have now teamed up with UltimateBet for “UFC 97: Redemption”. Ultimate Bet, one of the largest online gambling networks, will be sponsoring the UFC promotion itself, as well as  Chuck Liddell, Mauricio Rua, Thales Leites, Anderson Silva, Krzystof Soszynski, Eliot Marshall, and Antoni Hardonk for UFC 97.

UFC 97 weigh-ins

PRO MMA (promma.info) has the official weigh-in results for “UFC 97: Redemption” which took place Friday, April 17 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

The UFC Middleweight Champion came in three pounds under the 185 pound title-fight limit which is most likely an indication that the Champ is in phenomenal condition and will be fighting at optimum speed. The general consensus among MMA pundits is Silva wants to make a statement in this fight.

Silva’s opponent, Thales Leites, tipped the scale at the 185 pound middleweight title-fight limit, taking advantage of every single pound allowed. Few people are giving Leites a shot, and those kind of opponents are always dangerous.

UFC 97: REDEMPTION – PRO MMA staff picks

Once again the PRO MMA (promma.info) elders make their predictions. The event is UFC 97: REDEMPTION going down this Saturday night, April 18th in Montreal, Canada. The headliner is a UFC Middleweight Title fight between Champion Anderson Silva and Thales Leites.

Take a look at our predictions, see if you agree or disagree, and let us know why. Submit your picks as well.

Anderson Silva vs. Thales Leites
Denny Hodge: I don’t think Leites is going to be successful at getting the champ to the ground, to show us his world class ground game. Silva by TKO in Round 2.
Jeff Howard: Silva over Leites-I think Leites has a chance, if he can get Silva down. With that said, Leites’ chin is like glass and he will get crushed trying to take Anderson down.
Eddie Constantine: Silva by TKO RD2 – Silva should be able to overpower Leites, wearing him out as Thales attempts to take Anderson down tiring him out in the process.
Jack Bratcher: Silva wins in round one via (T)KO (strikes) because he can.
