ProMMA.info exclusive interview – Joey “The Mexicutioner” Beltran

ProMMA.info recently had the pleasure of speaking to one of the main event fighters from last weekend’s 5150 / XFL “New Year’s Revolution” card, Joey “The Mexicutioner” Beltran (10-3). Current 5150 Heavyweight Champion, Beltran defended his title against Houston “The Assassin” Alexander (9-6), who was coming off a much publicized decision loss to Kimbo Slice at The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale in December.

The Mexicutioner absolutely dominated Alexander and proved once again The Assassin can’t whack anyone off his back. After nearly two rounds of battering, the referee had seen enough, stopped the fight, and awarded Beltran the TKO victory.

Beltran shared with us his thoughts on the fight, and although it was an important win, why he was not getting overly excited about it. He also had some advice for The Assassin, talked about what is next, who his “dream fight” would be, and more. Enjoy.

ProMMA.info exclusive interview – Chris “The Professional” Davis

One of the most stacked regional MMA events in a long time took place this past weekend in Tulsa, Okla. with the 5150 / XFL co-promoted “New Year’s Revolution”. Several UFC veterans and rising MMA talent came together to entertain the live fans and the online pay-per-view audience.

One of the rising prospects on the card was Chris “The Professional” Davis (7-2), a light heavyweight fighting out of Tuscaloosa, Ala. Chris had been scheduled to fight Jason Lambert, but after Lambert withdrew at the last minute, Chris actually ended up fighting ProMMA.info‘s own “The Human Cock Fighter Blog” author, Brian Imes, and walked away with a first round TKO victory.

We have to give props to Brian for taking the fight on such short notice, but Chris remained the consummate “Professional” and tended to his business. In an effort to highlight another up-and-coming fighter from the South, and to learn more about the dude who beat up on our buddy, we spoke to Chris “The Professional” Davis this week to get the lowdown.

Human Cock Fighter Blog – Thumpin’ in Tulsa

Photo courtesy of www.okfightnews.com - Cris Davis vs. Brian Imes at "New Year's Revolution" on Jan. 16, 2010, in Tulsa, Okla.

Hunger breeds aggression breeds success breeds confidence breeds a champion.  At Hillbilly Fight Wear we print a shirt that says “Thump A Stranger.” Well there was a whole lot of thumpin’ goin on in Tulsa on Saturday night.

In a stacked card of 20 fights that included 7 UFC veterans and countless skilled journeymen, very few went the distance. 5150 and XFL put together the deepest mid-level show I have ever seen. The greatest part was that I got to watch the show from backstage.

I cut weight with Victor Moreno and Kevin Burns on Friday after driving the four hours from Kansas City in my ‘93 Chevy Silverado. Seven pounds I shed in two hours at the Aspen Fitness Center. I took this fight Wednesday morning following another last minute offer from matchmaker Cris Powell.

Joey Beltran turns Houston Alexander into a stepping stone at “New Year’s Revolution”

Photo by Dave Mandel / Sherdog.com - When Kimbo Slice is a better grappler than you, that could be a hint you need some work on the ground game. Kimbo suplexes Houston Alexander at the TUF 10 Finale.

Houston “The Assassin” Alexander (9-6), the once-upon-a-time-brawler who has seemingly fallen in love with leg kicks and evasion, proved once again the ground game is his Achilles heel last night in Tulsa, Okla.

Coming off a unanimous decision loss to Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson at “UFC: The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale” in December, Alexander was pitted against a much heavier* Joey “The Mexicutioner” Beltran (10-3) at “New Year’s Revolution”, a 5150/XFL co-promoted event held at the Spirit Bank Event Center.

It was a scene we have witnessed countless times before; wrestler takes striker to the ground and pounds him out. Alexander did his best in round one to land leg kicks and move side-to-side to avoid the takedown. However, it was not long before the Nebraska DJ ended up on his back eating elbows and punches.

Tough night for MMA fighters in K-1

Last year on New Year’s Eve three MMA stars carried the sport’s flag into K-1 matches and came out on top. Tatsuya Kawajiri, Alistair Overeem, and Gegard Mousasi all won their matches by knock out. Many thought that this was a sign that the level of striking in MMA had grown tremendously.

After Monday’s K-1 World Max Tournament card that presumption seems to have been a tad premature. This time the MMA representatives did not even appear to be in the fights.

Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto continued his slide, as he was highlight reel KO’d by relatively unknown South Korean Muay Thai fighter Jae Hee Cheon in 1:20 of the first round. This was Kid’s second loss since returning from his long lay off. He dropped a decision to Joe Warren in DREAM his last time out.
