Former Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez has been negotiating with the UFC to hammer out a new contract since the one he brought over from the Strikeforce/UFC merger has been fulfilled. However, things aren’t going well and it looks like the former champion could be on his way out of the UFC. There’s another former champion that’s excited about the possibility of fighting Melendez.

I like Gilbert very much, but I don’t like his manager.”

Marina Shafir just won her fifth MMA fight as an amateur. This past Sunday night Shafir submitted Nicole Upshaw at “University of MMA: Fight Night 5” at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. Shafir is the reigning Tuff-N-Uff featherweight champion, and like her best friend Ronda Rousey before her, has been submitting all her opponents in the first round — actually, most of them within the first minute. This last win took her 1:53, but who’s counting.
